During last week’s CinemaCon 2018 event in Las Vegas, when Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill was asked about the possibility of working with The Rock’s Black Adam in a future film, he revealed that things are being worked out in that direction.
During an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, Cavill was asked if fans will ever get to see Superman and Black Adam go toe-to-toe at some point. The actor responded back saying that if there is a Black Adam in the DCEU, it’ll definitely be played by Johnson.
He pointed out that Black Adam’s initial confrontation would probably be against Black Adam’s main nemesis, Shazam, played by Zachary Levi.
“I’m pretty sure it’ll be a Shazam-Black Adam thing first,” Cavill said. “If it does happen, it would make sense that way.”
However, he also came up with some alternate theories, though. The Man of Steel actor said that it may be the case that Black Adam will appear in a Superman movie and Shazam will aid in battling the antagonist which would grant the character a cameo.
“Maybe it’ll be a Superman movie and Shazam will come and help,” Cavill said. “That’s kind of stealing his limelight though.”
In another recent interview with Collider, Cavill teased that there “is a possibility” that he may return back as Superman in Man of Steel 2.
“There’s a lot of story I’d love to tell,” he said. “And if that stuff starts to happen, and with exciting filmmakers who I have close relationships with, then regardless whether I have one more or not, I’m doing it, because I want to tell more of the Superman story.”
The actor added that he is currently having a lot of conversations, behind-the-scenes about the Man of Steel sequel. He said that he is looking forward to playing the fan-favorite character one more time.
Though these projects are still in its early stages, Shazam! has given fans some hope as there have been rumors that Superman will make an appearance in the Shazam! standalone film.
David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! starring Zachary Levi will debut in theatres on April 5, 2019. A Black Adam film, starring Dwayne Johnson, is still in pre-production.
