Its been quite the unpredictable year for DC fans this 2020 with Warner Bros. finally responding to fans’ plea for the Snyder cut of Justice League. Moreover, the fandom was overwhelmed with joy after news broke that actor Henry Cavill is also in talks to return as Superman for the DCEU. In case anyone needs more reassuring, the Superman actor recently had a lot to say when asked about his experience donning the red cape.
It is still unclear when and how Superman’s return will be addressed in the DC comics movie. but on the bright side, fans will be pleased to know that Cavill is committed to playing the Man of Steel as long as he can. In an interview for Variety‘s Actors on Actors issue, the star revealed his immense love and interest in playing the Superman character to veteran actor Patrick Stewart.
“I’ve always been a fan of Superman,” said Cavill, who is 37. “With a character like that, you carry the mantle with you off set. And it becomes part of your public representation. When you meet children, children don’t necessarily see me as Henry Cavill, but they might see Superman, and there’s a responsibility which comes with that. Because it’s such a wonderful character, it’s actually a responsibility I’m happy to have, and I hope that I get to play more of Superman in years to come.”
Henry Cavill is happy to see Zack Snyder realize his vision
“My life has changed dramatically because of it,” Cavill added. “And it has given me plenty of opportunity for roles, and yeah, it’s been one of those characters which changed the entire course of my career. I’m incredibly grateful for it, and it’s also taught me a lot about myself.”
Stewart also asked the actor about the Snyder cut and although Cavill couldn’t offer any new update on the project, he shared his support for the director.
“Oh the Snyder Cut, the famous-slash-infamous-slash-all-sorts-of-things Snyder Cut,” Cavill said. “I can’t really tell you anything aside from the fact that all I know is that HBO Max will be releasing it, I believe, and it’ll be Zack’s final vision for the movie, and I don’t know anything more than that.
“I’m just really happy that Zack got to realize his vision,” Cavill continued. “I think it’s important for a filmmaker and a storyteller to have their intended vision released and shown to the world, and I’m looking forward to seeing it myself. It’s been quite the ordeal.”
At present, the most anticipated DC title isn’t exactly a new blockbuster but will rather present a completely different version of the 2017 DC ensemble film. Expectations are soaring high for the Snyder cut of Justice League as the original post-production team along with Zack Snyder are working on finishing the project for 2021 release.
The Snyder cut of Justice League has its release window planned for “early to mid-2021” for the HBO Max streaming service. Its possible that it could be released as a four-hour director’s cut or a six-part TV series.
Fans can learn more about the director’s cut project in the upcoming virtual Justice League convention on July 22-23. Zack Snyder is also confirmed to make a virtual appearance along with co-stars.
