HBO Max’s Peacemaker finale seems to have hit all the right notes for DC fans, especially with episode 8’s climax ending with a major cameo featuring the Justice League (or what’s left of it). The Man of Steel’s appearance, in particular, has the fandom up in arms for replacing Henry Cavill with a stand-in, though – some are also seeing it as a sign of hope for Superman’s return.
Peacemaker episode 8 saved the DCEU world from another “Kaiju” size catastrophe only this time from an alien species dubbed Butterflies. John Cena’s Chris, Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante, Jennifer Holand’s Harcourt, Danielle Brook’s Adebayo and Steve Agee’s John Economos manage to kill the cow – the butterflies’ only source of food, yet not without breaking a sweat. And to top it all, Waller’s back-up does arrive at the party with Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Ezra Miller’s The Flash, and stand-ins for Superman and Wonder Woman, making a last-minute entrance.
While Aquaman and The Flash are played by their respective actors, Cavill and Gal Gadot’s roles are portrayed by stand-ins. Disappointed DCEU fans have more or less seen it as a snub for The Witcher star from returning to the role. However, the use of a stand-in with Cavill’s physical attributes has some wondering if there’s more to the multiverse arc coming up in the Miller starrer The Flash movie. Readers can check it out below.
i don't understand why they CGI'd Superman though, considering Cavill's stated multiple times that he's willing to come back and he's just waiting for a phone call.

I just want Henry Cavill back as Superman. We really need some clarification on the status of his Superman. He deserves his own standalone trilogy like Gal Gadot & Jason Momoa. Please come back. pic.twitter.com/2wAy3HQX1V

They didn’t include Cyborg and Batman because of the issues but they kept Superman? Is Cavill returning? pic.twitter.com/ASeOwphvum

Getting really sick and tired of how Warner Bros is treating Cavill’s Superman pic.twitter.com/smcKGdtM7p

So not only has James Gunn confirmed the Justice League is still an active team to this current DCEU. He may have left hope for Henry Cavill Superman to come back as well! This just made my night wow pic.twitter.com/nqnjyCBI3O— ً (@jaidenlikestuff) February 17, 2022
I loved this scene, but the one thing that gets me sad is that Ezra, Gal and Jason all got there stand-alone films. I wish we could of seen Battflecks film and a Man Of Steel sequel. Henry Cavill deserved that at least https://t.co/iuccl7J1rn

I feel bad for Henry Cavill man. Bros been sucking up to WB for so long only for them to keep using a cgi model or someone else in the suit

Ray Fisher’s Cyborg and Ben Affleck’s The Batman are entirely out of the picture. Dark Knight’s MIA status could be due to Affleck’s exit and Michael Keaton’s yet-to-be-addressed return to the Batman role. Speaking with Variety, Gunn also weighed in on Batman and Cyborg being a no-show saying, “You know, I don’t know what I can — there are reasons for it, but I’m actually uncertain whether I can say what those reasons are. It might have to do with future stuff.”
On the bright side, Christopher Smith and his companion Eagly will soon return as director James Gunn confirmed Peacemaker season 2’s renewal. But Superman’s future still remains in limbo with neither Cavill nor Warner Bros. offering any indication for a Man of Steel sequel.
