House of the Dragon episode 6 fans react to Harwin strong’s death & fight with Criston Cole, Rhaenyra’s sons, Laena’s death by Vhagar, first look at Dreamfyre, Vermax & more

House of the Dragon episode 6 addresses the consequences of Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) choices with the shocking death of Ser Harwin (Ryan Corr), the biological father of the princess’ sons: Jacaerys Velaryon, Lucerys (Harvey Sadler) and the newborn Joffrey. But that wasn’t the only death by fire in chapter six as Daemon’s (Matt Smith) wife, Lady Laena Velaryon (Nanna Blondell) also dies but by Vhagar’s fire breath, which has not sat well with some fans since the character dies by delivering a stillborn in the source material. Aside from the gripping Targaryen family drama, Harwin Strong punching Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) to the ground is the only sequence the entire HOTD fandom can agree in harmony. Here’s a brief recap of the House of the Dragon episode 6’s best moments.

A ten-year time jump looms upon viewers in House of the Dragon episode 6, beginning with Rhaenyra giving birth to her third child. Laenor Velaryon (John Macmillan) names their son, Joffrey, a throwback to his lover’s death from episode 5 but it’s soon revealed he has nothing to do with the newborn child but rather that responsibility goes to Ser Harwin.

Its clear Alicent (Olivia Cooke) is quite aware of Rhaenyra’s affair and even mocks Laenor, “Do keep trying, Ser Laenor. Soon or late, you may get one who looks like you.” Even so, Alicent fails to get King Viserys (Paddy Considine) by her side who is in denial of the whole act. But it seems like he willfully ignores the truth in fear of “the consequences of an allegation the one you [Alicent] toy with, would be dire”.

With the introduction of Rhaenyra’s children, we also see Prince Jacaerys’ dragon, Vermax. The Dragonpit is used as a training ground for the young Targaryens however, Alicent’s son Aemond (Leo Ashton) does not have a dragon and is sadly bullied by his brothers. Prince Aegon (Ty Tennant) seems bored by the whole ordeal but perhaps because he already controls Sunfyre. Or maybe his eyes lie elsewhere since reaching manhood. Interestingly, Rhaenyra’s brother grew up with no interest in the Iron Throne although he holds the most power to ascend as the first male heir. But he dislikes the idea of challenging his sister though his mother’s toxic pressure could make him change his mind.

We also get the first look at Dreamfyre when Aemond snoops inside the Dragonpit. Readers would remember hearing the name from episode 2 when Daemon stole one of the Dragon’s eggs that was meant for the late Baelon. And Aemond’s worry may not be for long as Alicent assures him he will soon have his dragon and Helaena (Evie Allen) also agrees but adds “He’ll have to close an eye”. Did Halaena foreshadow Aemond losing an eye? Many fans believe she could be a dragon dreamer. Readers can check out reactions below.

Over at Pentos, Laenor and Daemon seem to be on vacation time, flying around on Caraxes and Vhagar, bidding their time. Though it’s clear Daemon is not happy and Laenor sees through him, even making a plea to return to Driftmark. Sadly, it never comes to fruition and rather ends with Laenor’s death.

As much delight came from watching Ser Crisston’s bloodied face, he’s still secured a better position at Westeros serving as a Knight of the Kingsguard. But Harwin, after losing his position as the Commander of the Night’s Watch is forced to go back to Harrenhal and dies of his brother’s plot in the name of the Queen. Meanwhile, Rhaenyra attempts to quell the bad blood between her and Alicent by proposing a marriage between her son Jacerys and the Queen’s daughter, Helaena. And also offering an egg for Aemond if Syrax brings forth another clutch of eggs.

Some of the best highlights of House of the Dragon episode 6 come from eagle-eyed fans like noticing the parallels of Aegon masturbating on the window of the Red Keep, the same spot where King Tommen Baratheon jumped to his death in Game of Thrones.

House of the Dragon episode 6’s killing off Han of the King, Lyonel and Harwin shocks fans

The deaths that occurred in House of the Dragon episode 6 are sure to haunt the events of episode 7, particularly the death of Lyonel Strong, The Hand of the King. Would this mean Otto Hightower could return as The Hand as Queen Alicent desires? It’s unclear but Larys’ heinous move on his own family could have larger implications in triggering Rhaenyra.

House of the Dragon screenwriting also deserves appreciation, especially for the thematic storytelling in the third act of episode 6 through Lary Strong’s firefly cane, possibly an indication that Larys Strong serves as the light leading the way for Alicent Hightower and her children. Hopefully, he doesn’t plan on taking away the light for his selfish gains.

House of the Dragon episode 7 will air next Sunday on HBO in the US and via Disney Plus Hotstar in India.
