House of the Dragon – HOTD fans argue if Alicent Hightower is similar to GOT’s Cersei Lannister

The twisted events of House of the Dragon episode 6 have some fans convinced Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) is the embodiment of Cersei (Lena Headey) from Game of Thrones. However, that comparison has left the fandom divided with many arguing that the Lannister Queen’s cruel antics over eight seasons could not be compared to a character that’s yet to complete a season.

House of the Dragon has been the talk of the town with the HBO series even ranking on Neilsen’s top 10 ratings. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that discussions related to Westeros and Targaryen are currently topping on social media. To such an extent that HOTD fans are already finding parallels with House of the Dragon characters to Game of Thrones, specifically Alicent Hightower’s traits who’s slowly grown more resentful of Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy).

Some HOTD fans pointed to episode 6’s shocking moments such as when Rhaenyra was forced to walk up to the Queen’s chambers moments after childbirth, causing Harwin and Lyonel Strong’s death and attempting to expose Rhaenyra’s affairs. While Lady Alicent’s behavior screams antagonist vibes, its nowhere close to Cersei, the Queen who blew up the Sept of Baelor along with her son’s wife, forcing Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma) to watch her daughter die a slow death, lying about aligning for the war with the White Walkers and executing Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel), to name a few of her atrocious acts.

Perhaps Alicent could grow into Cersei with given time but at the moment, it is not a fair comparison, as many fans argued in the tweets below. However, some believe Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) could be more vicious than Little Finger and Varys from Game of Thrones.

The time jump in this week’s House of the Dragon introduced the grown-up version of Alicent Hightower and Rhaenyra Taragaryen. Although the fandom was downhearted to see Milly Alcock and Emily Carey depart from the series, Both Cooke and D’Arcy’s stunning performances in episode 6 had viewers rest assured the roles were in good hands. But fans familiar with the source material are more interested in episode 7 where Alicent violently confronts Rhaenyra. Nonetheless, it’s sure to stoke more dissent among viewers
