‘I can’t be trusted..’: Rosario Dawson clarifies The Punisher comments made at C2E2, casts doubt on Jon Bernthal’s MCU return

The Punisher is NOT “happening again” because Rosario Dawson “can’t be trusted”, sorry folks, Dawson leaking Jon Bernthal’s return as The Punisher for a new MCU series may have been too good to be true. The Luke Cage star has clarified her recent comment at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) which suggested a revival of the Mercenary/gun-wielding vigilante character created for the Marvel-Netflix made series.

The potential revival of The Defenders has been hinted at time and again by its cast and while Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is returning with an improved new look in She-Hulk, the rest of Marvel’s street-level heroes’ future has been up in the air with no sign of their continuation from Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige. Even so, fans have hoped for Bernthal’s return, especially with insiders claiming The Punisher reportedly appears in Disney Plus’ Daredevil: Born Again. Nonetheless, the recent statement by Dawson was apparently false and was a piece of info she heard from the fans at the C2E2 signing.

“I can’t be trusted…! Getting intel from fans during signings is iffy apparently. My bad. I get excited. Confirmation is key when you’re told what you want to hear…” tweeted the Ahsoka star. Readers can check it out below.

While Dawson’s tweet shattered many fans’ hope, some are still speculating it could be the result of Marvel’s countermeasures in an effort to keep secret announcements hush-hush until their schedule reveal. If true, Marvel Studios could be planning to unveil it during D23 Expo 2022 set for this September. In any case, Bernthal has been candid about his desire to return but “I’m only interested in doing it right” – a response over his uncertainty in reprising the character as a PG-13 iteration instead of the R-rated adaptation shown on Netflix.

From casting John Krasinski as Reed Richards to reviving Cox’s version of the Daredevil – Marvel has been all ears in the past in listening to fans’ plea. Perhaps the same tradition follows with Bernthal too, and an R-rated setting doesn’t seem to be a deal breaker for Disney since Ryan ReynoldsDeadpool 3 is already in development.

The Punisher is available to stream on Disney Plus along with the rest of the Defenders saga series.
