‘I hate you 3000′: RDJ is Doomsday in Russo Bros’ Avengers 5 shocks MCU fans at SDCC Hall-H

With RDJ as Doctor Doom in Doomsday & the Russo Brothers helming Avengers 5, Marvel Studios’ announcement at SDCC’s Hall-H assures MCU fans that Phase 6 remains in good hands. The Russos will also be directing the sequel to the fifth installment, Avengers: Secret Wars.

Kevin Feige‘s presentation at SDCC Hall-H on Saturday (via Variety) took a surprising turn when he called upon the Russo Brothers on stage. As long rumored, The Kang Dynasty project has been reshaped (possibly due to Jonathan Major‘s controversy) into an entirely new follow-up retitled Avengers: Doomsday. Furthermore, Joe Russo acknowledged the unimaginable opportunities provided by MCU’s multiverse while a mysterious person wearing the Doctor Doom robe walked up to unmask his disguise to the audience, confirming that it is Robert Downey Jr. portraying Doctor Doom.

Fans on social media are delighted with many indicating the MCU appears to be returning to its glorious Endgame era and making a full circle to reunite with Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo Brothers – the powerhouses behind MCU’s success during the Infinity saga. Some have also shown their discontent with the announcement by stating “I hate you 3000”, perhaps in fear, it may be detrimental to Iron Man’s arc. but the revised famous dialogue is also being used as a callback to the original “I Love You 3000” the famous line spoken by Morgan Stark.

There were similar concerns for Hugh Jackman’s return in Deadpool & Wolverine but the film’s release confirmed Logan’s arc remains intact. One can hope the Multiverse saga also follows in the same footsteps. Readers can check our reactions below.

The iconic line from The Dark Knight‘s Harvey Dent, “You Either Die a Hero or Live Long Enough to See Yourself Become the Villain” more or less applies to Robert Downey Jr.’s Ironman. Several fans have the same sentiment for The Godfather of MCU, known for his ultimate sacrifice in using the Infinity Gauntlet to defeat Thanos and revive the rest of the universe is making a comeback as a villain more fearsome than the Mad Titan.

Avengers: Doomsday will arrive in theaters on May 2026 while Secret Wars is set for May 2027.
