‘I laughed..’- Harley Quinn season 4 episode 8: Snyderverse fanbase once again mocked in DCU series, Poison Ivy takes a swing at the DCEU fans

Harley Quinn season 4 episode 8 delivers a clever jibe at the Snyderverse fandom – a full circle moment to season 2, the last time the Max’s DCU series mocked the Snyder cut movement. But the comedic line has left some fans chuckling on social media while others, particularly Zack Snyder’s Justice League stans have taken offence of the joke.

Harley Quinn season 4 episode 8 kicks off with fans’ favorite Harlivy traveling back from 2048 only to realize they arrived six days behind time to prevent the apocalypse. At first glance of the dull & muted palate color tone setting of Gotham City, Poison Ivy says, “F*ck, we’re gone a few days and the Snyderverse people took over.”

In fairness, if the creators were aiming to make a comparison to the color tone of Zack Snyder’s Justice League – it would be relevant though it appears the jibe was aimed at the Snyderverse stans instead.

Bashing the Snyderverse is turning into a common phenomenon in Hollywood. In fact, the Barbie movie also had a reference to the Snyderverse – which also faced backlash from fans for entertaining the idea of mocking the fanbase from the same studio that also overlooked the events that transpired during Joss Whedon’s reshoots of the 2017 DCEU ensemble.

Some of the jests in Harley Quinn season 4 have been a hit or miss lately which may also explain the fourth segment’s 79% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes (as of this writing) compared to the previous seasons.

Many of the series fans were also displeased by the creator’s handling of the Nightwing butt joke. The Nightwing’s arc is entirely centered around his butt, even after his untimely demise, Dick Grayson’s coffin is shaped to accommodate his enormous butt ( a running joke among fans that has become over-saturated at this point due to season 4).

Meanwhile, Harley Quinn is yet to receive a renewal to proceed with season 5. Earlier in July, the producer Cecilia Aranovich Hamilton said there was no update so far from DC Studios on the continuation of the show.

“Well, we don’t really know at this point,” Aranovich Hamilton said. “Nothing has been communicated directly to us. As far as we know, he likes the show. You know, he was in it. [Laughs] So we assume he’s a fan of the show. We don’t know exactly where we’re going to go from here… We hope that Season 4 is successful and the fans really like it and James Gunn likes it and we can continue exploring this universe, but this is all we know so far.”

Harley Quinn season 4 is available to stream on Max.
