IT Movie Director Andy Muschietti Bags Attack On Titan Live Action Adaptation

New reports suggest IT director Andy Muschietti has signed with Warner Bros. to direct a new live-action adaptation of Hajime Isayama’s popular post-apocalyptic manga, Attack on Titan.

Variety reports that Warner Bros. has finalized the deal setting Muschietti as the director of the film with Japan-based publishing company Kodansha on Monday. As per the report, the new adaptation will be produced by Masi Oka (Mega Man), David Heyman (Harry Potter), and Barbara Muschietti (It). A screenwriter has not yet been announced.

Attack on Titan made its debut in 2009 and went to become one of the best-selling manga series with more than 76 million copies sold. The series follows humanity’s fight for survival within the walled cities attacked by the giant, man-eating creatures known as Titans. The lead character, Eren Yeager, along with his two childhood friends Mikasa and Armin joins the military after the Titans attack his hometown.

The story has already been adapted into an anime series, a live-action movie, and several video games in the past. The series got a Japanese-language big screen adaptation in 2015 from director Shinji Higuchi. The film, which was released in two parts, earned a mere $46 million.

Talking more about Andy Muschietti, he is currently busy working on IT sequel, titled IT: Chapter 2, which is set for release in September 2019. His adaptation of IT- based on the Stephen King novel- shattered box office records when it hit theaters last year. It became one of the biggest horror films of all time earning $700 million worldwide.

Set 27 years after the first film, IT Chapter 2 will see the grown-up Losers Club members meet once again in Derry, Maine, to take on Bill Skarsgard’s Pennywise the clown. The film stars Jessica Chastain (Beverly Marsh), James McAvoy (Bill Denbrough), Bill Hader (Richie Tozier), Jay Ryan (Ben Hanscom), Andy Bean (Stanley Uris), James Ransone (Eddie Kaspbrak), and Isaiah Mustafa (Mike Hanlon) in the lead roles.

IT Chapter 2 will be in theaters on September 6, 2019.
