Actor Jake Gyllenhaal has finally refuted all the reports of him replacing Ben Affleck in The Batman. Since last year, there have been rumors of Ben Affleck not reprising his role of the Caped Crusader in the DC universe. It was reported that The Batman director Matt Reeves has been searching for a new actor to portray Batman in his film and that his top choice for the role was Jake Gyllenhaal. But now, the Donnie Darko actor has finally put a full stop to the ongoing rumors in a recent interview.
During an interview with China News Asia, the interviewer straight away asked Gyllenhaal if he is going to be the next Batman, he responded with, “Wow, that’s a very difficult question. The answer to that question is no.”
Although Gyllenhaal has denied the rumors, it might be the case that he doesn’t want to reveal anything in a random interview, just like Jason Momoa who lied about being cast as Aquaman for over a year until it was officially announced.
As Ben Affleck is not expected to star in The Batman, director Reeves will now have to look for another actor to take on the iconic character. Another name that was floated along with Gyllenhaal’s was Jon Hamm. It will surely be quite interesting to find out who gets cast as the Caped Crusader.
Notably, a recent report claimed that Reeves’ The Batman movie won’t completely focus on the “A Death in the Family” storyline, in which the Clown Prince of Crime killed Jason Todd. The Batman movie was confirmed to get a new script by the director himself.
When a fan recently asked Reeves to offer an update on the status of the film, he replied that the work is going on really well and that he is too excited for the project.
It is expected that the film’s production and filming work will begin sometime in 2019, so, fans can expect a 2020 or 2021 release timeframe for The Batman movie.
