James Gunn’s response to Release the Ayer cut reignites DCEU fans hope, Suicide Squad director David Ayer reacts & Zack Snyder shows support

WBD’s DC Studios’ new CEO James Gunn reassures Release The Ayer cut fans that their campaign to see David Ayer’s Suicide Squad director’s cut has reached their ears. In fact, the Peacemaker helmer has hinted that the new leadership is “open to everything” which has reignited the DCU fandom’s hope, with many comparing the current mood to the time when The Snyder cut received the thumbs up.

Since taking up his new big responsibility for the DC Films franchise, Gunn has been cryptic about his plans for DCEU, like possibly even suggesting an obscure character like Deadman could get a live-action. However, most of the fans’ attention has been on existing shows like Titan since WBD axed HBO Max’s Star girl series and the timing of Gunn’s arrival signaled that it may be his decision as part of the overhaul.

Surprisingly, after last week’s Release the Ayer Cut campaign, Gunn reacted to the trending online event by mentioning the hashtag and Save the Legends of Tomorrow, The CW series from the Arrowverse. The director acknowledged that most of these requests were “enthusiastic and respectful”.

While Gunn did not directly confirm or deny the possibility of Release the Ayer cut seeing the light — the franchise’s architect acknowledged the movement and also said they are “open to everything”. The response has attracted fans from across the world weighing in their thoughts, Director Zack Snyder also shared his support by responding to posts related to Ayer Cut on Vero.

While some doubt seeing 2016’s Suicide Squad director’s cut release, the masses are beginning to entrust the new vision and “new DCU”, its official, “DCEU” has been rebranded and possibly to make the entire large universe inclusive under one banner.

It’s safe to say James Gunn will have an eye on fans’ response to his universe-building since the director has been known for his interactions on Twitter since the early Guardians of the Galaxy days. Even so, the director may not be as active as before, especially until 2023 as he juggles with MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and GOTG Holiday Special project along with delivering a Peacemaker season 2 for HBO Max.
