While Peacemaker season 2 was not part of the DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters announcement, James Gunn has assured that the follow-up segment is still in the works rather just delayed. The DCU architect indicated that his current involvement in the Superman: Legacy project has pushed back the production work for the HBO Max series.
The DCU Chapter 1 is expected to deliver over 10 projects by 2027 but Peacemaker season 2 was not among them. However, Gunn addressed a spin-off based on the John Cena starrer series centered over the ARGUS director, Amanda Waller. Viola Davis‘ return was confirmed but The Suicide Squad director had only stated that “we can’t do Peacemaker season 2” and that the Waller series would be a continuation of the show.
Fortunately, while the Waller show would explore a separate arc centered over the Task Force X head – it has not led to the cancellation of Peacemaker season 2. When one fan inquired Gunn with the same doubts, the helmer replied, “Heck no, just postponed while I work on Legacy. Waller first, PM after.” Readers can check it out below.
The Waller series does not have a release date attached yet but it’s the only project in development with a treatment in the works from Christal Henry and Jeremy Carver. Furthermore, it’s looking increasingly likely Gunn could take over the directorial duties for Superman: Legacy and if so, then fans should likely expect Peacemaker season 2 to go into production after the reboot Man of Steel project.

On the bright side, characters from the show such as Jennifer Holland‘s Emilia Harcourt, Waller’s daughter Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) and John Economos (Steve Agee) are likely to appear in Waller and other DCU projects.
Peacemaker season 1 concluded with the acknowledgment of DCEU’s Justice League featuring appearances from The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Aquaman (Jason Momoa) while the trinity was portrayed by extras. Peacemaker season 2 would be released in the post-reset universe so it will be interesting to see the shift in tone toward characters in the new interconnected timeline.
