Jeremy Irons Explains The Portrayal Of His Version Of Alfred In ‘Justice League’

Justice League will be Jeremy Irons second movie playing as Alfred Pennyworth and this time, the character won’t just be aiding The Dark Knight from the Batcave. Recently, in an interview, the Oscar-winning actor spoke about the new element he introduced in playing the Iconic role.

In the video below, Irons explains how the character will be completely new due to the essence he will be introducing. “We decided to try and change him a little bit from… How he had been… make him less of a butler,” said Irons.

He goes on to share a personal story which perfectly explains the new version of Alfred Pennyworth. While the character will have his fine butler skills, he’ll also be capable of taking control over The Batman’s bat vehicle and aid him in battle.

“He’s a guy [Alfred] who’ll make a good cup of coffee. But if you need him, if you’re in trouble. He’ll be there with the experience that he’s garnered,” said Irons. Readers can check out the video below.

This change in the character would certainly impress the comic readers. In Geoff Johns’ Batman: Earth One, the comic book portrayed the tough version of Alfred which seems to be the take Irons is also discussing in the interview.

Fans got a glimpse of it in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which introduced Irons’ Alfred. Fortunately, we’ll get to see more of it in Matt Reeves’ The Batman as well.

For now, it will be interesting to see how the character transforms along with The Batman in Justice League. The film hits theatres tomorrow (November 17th). Responses from critics haven’t been all praises but it looks like the hype and anticipation of the movie among fans still remain strong.
