Joaquin Phoenix Addresses The Joker Rumors With A Big Smile

There are rumors that claim that Warner Bros.’ untitled Joker origin film will feature Joaquin Phoenix as the iconic Batman villain. But, neither the filmmakers nor Phoenix has yet confirmed if he is on board for the Joker film.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, when Phoenix was asked to address the rumors about him portraying the character of the Joker in the upcoming movie, he said he doesn’t know anything about the movie.

I don’t even know what this movie is,” Phoenix said with a big smile. “What is everyone talking about?

Though he decided to play coy when asked about the role, the actor still did not forget to praise Ledger’s performance as the Clown Prince of Crime in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. He said Ledger performance was “fucking brilliant” in the film. However, the actor said that he’s never really been a “huge fan” of the Batman comic series.

Phoenix recalled his first foray into the DC Comics universe. At the age of 15, he appeared in an episode of TV’s Superboy in 1989 playing a character named Billy Hercules.

I played a boy that fantasized he’s Superboy,” the Oscar-nominated actor said.

In another interview with Collider, Phoenix said the same thing that he has no idea about the much talked about the film or the character.

I don’t know about that movie or character specifically, but I was thinking about it’s interesting with comics there’s different writers and artists that come on,” said Phoenix about the reports that he has been tapped to play the Joker in Todd Phillips’ origin movie.

However, he admitted that Ledger’s legacy wouldn’t affect him if in case he were to take the role.

Talking more about the film, Warner Bros.’ Joker origin movie will portray the clown as a failed 1980s comedian. The film is a crime drama set in 1980s Gotham City. The Hangover director Todd Phillips is directing and co-writing the Joker movie with Scott Silver.

Pursue News will bring you the latest updates on the Joker movie as it comes in it.
