Ever since news about Joker origin movie popped up, rumors have been going wild as to how will the movie take shape and what exactly is the studio planning to do with it.
Recently Suicide Squad star Jared Leto who played the role in the movie addressed the Joker origin movie reports and expressed how he feels about it.
Screen Rant reported that Leto was at the launch of Destiny 2 and gave an interview to ODE where he spoke about the origin movie of his character. He said:
“I’m a little confused too, but yeah, there are a couple of things happening in the DC world and I loved the Joker, he’s a great character, a really fun character to play. It’s a big universe and when you play the Joker, there’s no ownership there. You have the honor of holding the baton for a little while and then passing it off. But there are other films in development and I’m excited to see what comes from them.”
Many fans were excited while some raised concerns when Leto was cast as the Joker in the DCEU. The Academy Award winning actor’s method acting technique was widely reported but eventually did not quite leave an impact on fans everywhere.
The reason why it perhaps did not leave quite an impact was that his screen time in Suicide Squad was not as much as the trailers hyped it to be. He had a couple of appearances here and other and was really not utilized the way he was supposed to.
Despite that, he still sounds willing and excited to play the character and reportedly has more appearances as the Joker in the DCEU. The Joker/Harley spin-off, Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens are just some of the movies where Leto is expected to reprise his role.
As far as Suicide Squad 2 is concerned, it would probably be best if he were to be made the main villain in it. This would put the Squad up against the maniac and would also bring a complicated angle with Harley Quinn’s involvement.
Whether she chooses to side with the Squad or choose to support the man she has been in love with would make an interesting angle.
As far as the other Joker origin movie is concerned, it will not exist in the DCEU and will be a part of another DC banner. It will reportedly feature a young and bullied Joker and what led to him becoming the Evil Prince of Crime.
No official casting announcement has been made yet but reports are stating that Leonardo DiCaprio is the studio’s top choice for the role. Even though DiCaprio is a great actor, he might not exactly fit the bill especially since the studio was aiming to get a younger actor for the role.
It remains to be seen who gets cast in the Joker origin movie and when do fans see Leto reprise his version of Joker in DCEU.
