JK Simmons recently talked about the research that he did to reprise his role as Police Commissioner James Gordon in the DC Extended Universe’s superhero team-up film, Justice League.
The 62-year-old actor JK Simmons made his debut as James Gordon in Justice League. But playing the role wasn’t always easy going by what the actor had to say.
Simmons, while speaking to the Metro newspaper said,“There was definitely a little bit of an intimidation factor but I wasn’t going to sit down in my living room, get out my DVDs and watch Gary Oldman.”
“I obviously had a tiny little part in the first movie and I did more reading of comics and talking to friends who were comic book aficionados rather than watching or listening to the wonderful actors who have played that character in the past.”
Just before the release of Justice League, Simons had opened up about his thoughts on the character. He had said:
“I think as we delve further into Jim Gordon, and the planned sequel, what I’m hoping to find is some of his sort of tough guy, badass [qualities]. There have been so many incarnations of him, obviously in print and also on screen, and I think one of the aspects that I found the most interesting about him as I did my research, with my comic book nerd friends mostly, was that he is a tough guy.”
Even though the role of Commissioner Gordon has been essayed by many actors till date, it is Oldman’s role in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy that stands out.
The character of Gordon was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. The character debuted in 1939 and became an ally to Batman in Gotham City.
Do you think there is any other actor who could have played the role of Commissioner Gordon in Justice league better than JK Simmons? Tell us in the comment box below.
