Kevin Smith Says Thanos Is A Hero & Believes He Showed Mercy

While the majority of fans consider Thanos as a villain who took the lives of thousands of people with just one snap, there are others who believe the Mad Titan is not a villain and Kevin Smith is among those who think the purple-hued devil is a hero.

During a recent episode of his Fatman on Batman podcast, when a fan asked Smith and his co-host Marc Bernardin to create their ultimate hero and villain teams of five members each to do battle, Smith’s choice of Thanos for the hero team surprised everybody. Bernardin, on the other hand, chose the Mad Titan for his villain team.

According to Smith, Thanos could have killed everybody with his snap. But, he did not do it. He, in fact, was generous enough to just wipe out half of the world’s population. So, in Smith’s view, Thanos is a hero.

Controversial choice, Thanos,” Smith said. “From a certain perspective, he’s a hero. He could have literally wiped out everybody with one snap. I call that mercy.”

Well, Smith is not the only one to call the Mad Titan a savior of sorts. Avengers: Infinity War’s home release included a commentary by co-director Anthony Russo who explained how Thanos is noble enough to see himself as a servant.

That’s I think, one of the most unnerving things about Thanos, is that there is a nobility in him, you know? It’s not ego, it’s not power,” Anthony explained. “He basically looks at himself as a servant and when he’s finished with his service, he rests.”

Fans will next see the Mad Titan in action in the yet-to-be-titled Avengers 4 film, which releases in theatres on May 2019. The film will serve as a significant conclusion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3.

Which Marvel superhero do you think will ultimately kill Thanos? Will it be Captain Marvel? Round off your views in the comments section below.
