Late Lance Reddick’s Zeus in Percy Jackson and The Olympians series gets emotional response online, Grown-Up fans react to first look at Camp Half-Blood, Hades, Annabeth Chase & more

With over a million views, it’s fair to say Percy Jackson and The Olympians teaser has been met with a large wave of delightful reactions. From the first glimpse at Camp Half-Blood to the late Lance Reddick‘s Zeus – it’s a bittersweet moment for audiences across the world waiting to witness the fantasy drama exploring the journey of the 12-year-old Percy, the half-spring demigod of Poseidon (Toby Stephens).

Percy (Walker Scobell) and his fellow modern demigod are faced with a rude awakening, to muster up the strength to go on a quest to find Zeus’ stolen Master Bolt, A weapon the all-mighty deity believes to have been taken by Percy for Poseidon. The stakes are high as a failure to recover the lightning bolt would result in an all-out war between the Olympian gods. From the looks of it, The teaser trailer drops clear hints that season 1 is an accurate adaptation of Rick Riordan‘s novels as it sets off with the Lightning Thief’s arc.

For adult fans, the Percy Jackson and the Olympians teaser trailer is a trip down memory lane, particularly for audiences who have been avid followers of the source material. In fact, while the promo footage mostly shows the demigods in a modern setting, shots of the greenery-filled Camp Half-Blood site have received an overwhelmingly positive reaction.

In the upcoming promos, Many expect a better glimpse of the Aphrodite Cabin, the house where the offspring of demigods live. Meanwhile, some eagle-eyed fans dug deeper into the teaser for clues which led to findings like the two prominent characters that barely appear in the 1 minute 30-second footage. Hermes’ son, Luke is shown briefly at 0:36 runtime while Hades’ first look is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment when Chiron (Glynn Turman) informs Percy about the stolen Master Bolt.

The casting of Leah Jeffries for Annabeth Chase has received the fanbase’s approval too. In the earlier live-action adaptation, Alexandra Daddario portrayed the daughter of the goddess Athena. Although detractors were disappointed by the race-bending, Leah Jeffries’ brief presence in the teaser has fans sold on her casting.

Rick Riordan’s involvement in the casting process has certainly helped in getting fans on board. Speaking of which, the late Lance Reddick’s casting as the omnipotent Greek god may arguably attract more viewers, especially John Wick fans who fondly remember his performance as Charon.

While the series targets young demography, grown-ups familiar with Riordan’s works have also shown interest in tuning in the first two episodes. Many veteran Percy fans also praised the choice of song, Vance Joy’s Riptide cover in the teaser. All in all, the general excitement for the series pales in comparison to the nitpicking as can be seen in the reactions below.

Similar to the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians show, Disney has also been developing another fan-favorite young adult fantasy, the Eragon series. Moreover, Bert Salke, the producer of the Greek mythology series is also attached to executive produce Christopher Paolini‘s live-action adaptation so it looks like the mouse-house might soon deliver another exciting Young Adult fiction for the small screen.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians will arrive on Disney Plus on December 20.
