‘lifeless as Morbius’ – Kraven the Hunter trailer gets hilarious reactions, fans thirst over Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s shirtless scenes, backlash over no Russian accent, Rhino tease & more

The first look trailer for Kraven the Hunter is here & has fans discussing the Aaron Taylor-Johnson starrer Marvel flick with Morbius memes. Moreover, many are already predicting the villain origin movie’s post-credits scene will have a Sinister Six tease as well. The Red Band footage appears to be similar to the CinemaCon exclusive reveal which shows Kraven picking off his enemies in the grisliest manner like ripping apart a mercenary’s nose with his teeth.

It’s not a good start for Sony Pictures’ upcoming anti-hero Marvel film as fans compare it to Jared Leto‘s adaptation of The Living Vampire. Kraven the Hunter is another Spider-Man spinoff similar to other Sony-made Marvel projects such as Madame Web.

Going by social media reactions, If Kraven the Hunter is destined to face the same fate as Morbius, the movie is still likely to sweep theaters by thirst-trapping fans with shirtless scenes of Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The trailer shows glimpses of Kraven’s backstory as a young going by Sergei Kravinoff. Russell Crowe plays his father, a crime-lord/hunter, and is the antagonist of the film too.

The live-action adaptation of Kraven has made a surprising change to the character’s nature by adding a superhuman mix. The promo video shows Kraven acquiring enhanced abilities due to DNA alteration from Lion’s bite. It’s possible the Alpha predator’s blood mixed with Kraven’s since the trailer shows a drop of blood dripping into his body.

Unfortunately, the new power addition to Kraven has received backlash from Marvel fans though that is just one of the fandom’s concerns. A majority of Kraven fans are not supportive of the character’s American accent. In the comics, Kraven is a Russian so many hoped to hear Aaron Taylor-Johnson pull off a Russian accent.

One Twitter user going by @christiandimo23 also pointed out Taylor-Johnson is quite capable of interpreting an accurate Russian accent since he “already proved he can do a solid one in Age of Ultron”. The actor portrayed Pietro Maximoff, a Serbian in the Avengers sequel for MCU.

Coming to the biggest takeaway from the Kraven trailer – the teasing glimpse of Rhino confirms the villain will not be portrayed as a thug in a mechanized suit like the Amazing Spider-Man 2. It appears Alexei Sytsevich (the character’s name in Marvel comic) injects himself with Rhino DNA that gives him nearly indestructible durability to his skin.

Rhino’s mutant-type iteration seems to be in the fans’ favor. Though there remains a lot of confusion on the radioactive element that appears to give Kraven and Rhino their powers.

From the looks of it, Sony may already have their Sinister Six ensemble in their hands counting Kraven, Rhino, Venom, Vulture and Morbius. It’s possible Venom 3 could set up the final villain to join the Sinister Six but it’s mere speculation for now. Nonetheless, Spider-Man’s face-off with the villain ensemble is evident and could be the main element of the Tom Holland starrer Spider-Man 4.

Sony Pictures have also released a character poster with the tagline, “Villains aren’t Born. They’re made.” While some felt the poster was generic and even compared it to the likes of Black Adam – it rather parallels Kraven the Hunter comic iteration featuring him seated on a throne-esque chair.

Will Kraven the Hunter fall prey to the Morbius sweeps trend? So far, the internet is not short of Kraven being called Morbius 2.0 but there are also fans expecting it to be a decent entry similar to the first Venom movie. Furthermore, it should also be noted Kraven’s screening test was positive so Sony may have a blockbuster at hand if all goes well.

Kraven the Hunter will release in theaters on October 6.
