Lizzy Caplan To Play Female Lead in Channing Tatum’s ‘Gambit’

Lizzy Caplan has joined the cast of Gambit as the leading lady. She will be playing the female lead in this X-Men spin-off film in which Channing Tatum will play the male lead.

Work on this Marvel Comics adaptation began way back in 2015 with 20th Century Fox casting Channing Tatum as the lead hero. Director Rupert Wyatt of Rise of the Planet of the Apes fame was signed in to helm the project. Wyatt left soon only to make way to Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow). The script needed to be worked upon which resulted in the fim’s delay. Liman too left the project earlier this year. The directorial responsibility of Gambit was then handed over to filmmaker Gore Verbinski.

Variety has confirmed that The Masters of Sex star Lizzy Caplan will play the female lead in Gambit, a superhero movie. No other details (which include her role in the movie) have been revealed as yet.

There is very little information on the film. Considering the delays and change of directors, it is good to know that the project is making progress. Lizzy Caplan’s entry in the film is a good sign although an official announcement is yet to be made.

Back when Wyatt was in charge, Blue Is the Warmest Color star Lea Seydoux was roped in to play the female lead.  She was then playing this character called Belladonna Bourdreaux, who plays the love interest of Gambit in the comics. She is also one of the members of the Assassins’ Guild. That was the scenario in 2015. Now that there has been a lot of a change made in the script, it is not clear what Caplan’s role in Gambit would be.

Lizzy Caplan is an extremely talented actress capable of showcasing her prowess in both drama and comedy as she has proved in films like The Night Before, The Interview, and Showtime series Masters of Sex.

The film will be produced by Channing Tatum, Simon Kinberg, Reid Carolin, and Lauren Shuler Donner. The script for Gambit is written by Josh Zetumer and is expected to release on February 14, 2019.
