Loki season 2 early reviews: critics say Tom Hiddleston starrer series is fast-paced, praise Ke Huy Quan’s OB, Tara Strong’s Miss Minutes, Jonathan Majors’ Kang as Victor Timely & more

The first four episodes of Tom Hiddleston starring Loki season 2 are being hailed as a fast-paced non-stop excitement with new characters like Ke Huy Quan‘s O.B & Kang’s Victor Timely delivering a fantastic performance. Unlike MCU’s recent multiverse-centric entries – the follow-up season appears to be a self-contained story keeping the focus on Loki, Mobius and Hunter B-15’s high-stakes adventure, in their search for Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), Judge Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) and Miss Minutes (Tara Strong). Here’s what critics have to say in their social media reactions/reviews.

With the wrap-up of Loki season 2‘s green carpet premiere in LA, the verdict is out on the God of Mischief’s multiverse drama series & safe to say it’s largely positive. Due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the fan event was launched unaccompanied by any of the cast members but Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige was present at the event to put the ensemble in the spotlight for their performance.

Loki season 2 picks up right where season 1 concluded so viewers can expect to see Loki & Mobius puzzled as they attempt to get a grip on the situation at hand. The non-spoiler social media reactions confirm the series digs deeper into the TVA’s importance, as noted by CinemaBlend’s Sean O’Connell.

For starters, Miss Minutes could be a bigger thorn to handle than what has been portrayed so far. Aside from compliments for Tara Strong’s voiceover – one critic noted, “Miss Minutes will still get on your nerves”.

Season 2’s “dark and dreary” tone seems to be cleverly balanced with comedy from Ke Huy Quan’s O.B. and Wilson’s Mobius. The EEAAO star has a brilliant chemistry with the recurring cast, as Comicbook’s Brandon Davis states. It shouldn’t come as a surprise since even the brief conversation between Mobius & the TVA mastermind was not short of humor in the trailer.

The supporting cast such as Wunmi Moasku‘s Hunter B-15 has delivered a “career performance” says CBR writer Joshua M. Patton. In addition, Obi-Wan Kenobi composer Natalie Holt’s score has been heavily praised as well and the same applies to the cinematography.

It should be noted critics are awfully silent on Kang/Victor Timely’s performance (likely due to Majors’ unresolved controversy) though have hailed the big bad as the next Thanos. Furthermore, a few critics found season 2 to be a lackluster follow-up with rushed conclusions. For some like FandomWire’s Reilly Johnson, the sophomore entry is not as good as the first season.

It’s fair to say Loki season 2’s success can be attributed as a group effort of the cast & crew. In fact, critics have applauded the series creators for being the first Marvel Studios project to complete its production without additional photography. In the past, several MCU flicks & comic book movies have tarnished their chances at box office success due to bad press over reshoots.

Meanwhile, the runtime of the first four episodes of Loki season 2 is reportedly under an hour. Episode 3 has the highest runtime clocking in at 53 minutes. Readers can check it out below.

Loki season 2 will begin streaming on Disney Plus on Thursday, October 5.
