‘Looks worse than I Imagined…’: The CW’s Gotham Knights trailer disappoints DC fans

The first look at The CW’s Gotham Knights series has arrived and with it, DC fans’ frustration is at an all-time high with many pointing their criticism towards the show’s cheap production value. The series will center over The Dark Knight’s adopted son Turner Hayes (Oscar Morgan) and the kids of the batman universe following the mysterious murder of Bruce Wayne.

Gotham Knights is a newly ordered series from the CW which comes following the cancellation of Batwoman, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Naomi. Gotham Knights’ first trailer makes it clear the series won’t feature Batman but rather revolve around his murder in a Gotham City that no longer has a hero to protect. But not quite, Wayne’s son Hayes seems to be doing his own investigation to find the murderer but in the process, he allies with the children of Batman’s enemies namely Harper Row (Fallon Smythe), and her brother Cullen Row (Tyler DiChiara), Duela (Olivia Rose Keegan). And surprise! Harvey Dent is still alive in this universe and is played by Misha Collins.

The series will also pay homage to The Dark Knight graphic novel through Navia Ziraili Robinson playing Carrie Kelley. Will she be the Robin of Gotham Knights? It’s too soon to tell but what fans can tell is their disappointment with The CW series on social media. Some were also frustrated to know DC’s Legends of Tomorrow was axed with an unaddressed cliffhanger while the network greenlight Gotham Knights. Many also pointed toward DC producing high production value shows for HBO Max, like Peacemaker. Readers can check out reactions below.

It remains to be seen what types of big bad the ragtag team of young vigilantes will face in the upcoming series. But nonetheless, the kids are Gotham’s only hope. Produced by Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions, Gotham Knights is penned by Batwoman writers Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Natalie Abrams and set for a 2023 release.
