Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Offers Job As Star Wars Director To Taika Waititi

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has informally offered Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi a job to direct a Star Wars movie.

Speaking to Newshub, the brand manager of the Star Wars franchise, Kathleen Kennedy agreed with the host that Taika Waititi would be perfect for Star Wars after checking out his work in Thor, which she thought was “amazing.” When asked if Waititi should direct a Star wars movie, Kennedy said that she would love him to helm a Star Wars movie.

Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thor: Ragnarok, which released early last month, was a huge success at the box office. The film managed to gross $819.6 million worldwide with its domestic collections at $293.5 million, as of December 5, according to Box Office Mojo. The film was termed as exciting, hilarious, adventurous and action-packed film by reviewers. It seems like it’s not just the moviegoers who have loved the film.

Waititi’s effort hasn’t gone unnoticed. In an interview with Newshub, Kathleen Kennedy, who took over Lucas as the president of Lucasfilm in 2012 said:

“I would love for him to direct a Star Wars movie. I think he has exactly the right sensibility. It was very exciting to see him step into the Marvel universe and do such an amazing job with Thor.”

This comment was made by Kennedy in Tokyo while she was promoting Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. Kennedy then asked Newshub to “let him know” about their interest. Further, when she was asked if it was a genuine job offer, she laughed and said “yes” quite seriously.

Taika Waititi had in the past expressed his interest in joining the Star Wars universe. He had once told Uproxx, “I’m not an idiot. Who would actually say no to Star Wars”?. However, in an interview with the New York Times, Waititi had said:

“That particular franchise seems really hard. There’s not much room for someone like me.”

This statement was made by Waititi soon after the announcement that Colin Trevorrow would not continue to direct Star Wars Episode IX.

Since the boss herself has offered a job to direct the Star Wars movie, Taika Waititi might want to reconsider. Do you think Taika Waititi is the right person to direct a Star Wars movie? Tell us in the comment box below.
