When the fan-favorite Henry Cavill’s Superman cameo in Black Adam resulted in Warner Bros. greenlighting the Man of Steel 2, The Flash director Andy Muschietti had seemingly shown interest in helming the project, claims a new report. In addition, at one point, Warner Bros. Pictures execs did consider taking a step forward in the Snyderverse route of DCEU. Unfortunately, James Gunn’s reboot 10-year plan may have thrown those once-desired projects out the window.
Uncertainty looms over the Man of Steel 2 moving forward and that includes Henry Cavill’s future in the new DCU design by James Gunn & Peter Safran. it seems like only yesterday that following Black Adam’s release, Cavill confirmed his return as Superman with a new poster reveal. However, few journalists like The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez had pointed out that The Witcher star was yet to sign a contract, although he had exited his role as Geralt of Rivia.
Until late November, even Dwayne Johnson continued to hop on the Supe hype train, reminding of his importance to build out DC Universe. But in the following days since Gunn hinted his DC Bible is not long away from a presentation – Supes’s future, particularly the version played by Henry Cavill has once again come under question. But according to THR, Muschietti “expressed interest” in taking over the directorial duties for the sequel.
The Flash helmer had hoped to make the movie in the same tone as the 1978 Superman movie by Richard Donner. But it didn’t stop at that, WB’s CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy considered making a Justice League 2 with characters introduced by Zack Snyder.

Black Suit Supes from Zack Snyder’s Justice League
“In fact, the current leadership team at Warner Bros Pictures — Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy — did desire one more go-around of the Snyderverse heroes,” The trade stated. “Possibly even having another Justice League movie with those actors. But that was before Gunn and Safran began formulating their new (and still in flux) plan.”
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the heads in charge of the Warner Bros. film division desired to give Zack Snyder’s DCEU another chance before heading in a new direction. The fan community was outspoken during the days leading up to the Warner Bros. Discovery merger. And the spotlight on Snyder’s fandom was at its pique during Black Adam’s release due to The Rock’s decision to take notes from fans which resulted in including footage from Zack Snyder’s Justice league.
As noted in the trade’s writing, Gunn and Safran’s DC bible is still in flux so the possibility of the DCEU’s Man of Steel 2 or a Justice League 2 can only be determined after they unveil their roadmap for DCU’s world-building.
