Mark Ruffalo’s film Thor: Ragnarok, directed by Taika Waititi has already begun screening in select countries even though it will hit the theaters in North America next weekend. While the film is raking in rave reviews, Ruffalo, in an interview spoke about Thor 3 and the Avengers. He also gave a detailed account of his experience working with Russo brothers on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4.
In an exclusive interview with Collider, Mark Ruffalo shared about his work on the latest Marvel epic. He spoke about Ragnarok being a mini version of Planet Hulk, Infinity War and Avengers 4.
When Ruffalo, who plays Hulk/Bruce Banner in Thor 3 and the Avengers franchise was asked how he felt when he was first pitched the story, the actor gave an account of how it all began and threw light on his character. “So, its funny. I was called in with Kevin and Lu and Brad months before, and they said ‘Listen, if you are gonna make a standalone, what would it be, what would be your ideas? I said it should be this, this, and should end here’.”
To his amazement, the makers questioned, “ What if we took that and did that between Thor 3, Avengers 3 and Avengers 4? And we did that whole character arc for you as if it was a standalone movie and we put it in those 3 movies.” Ruffalo was excited with the “mini version of Planet Hulk”.
Giving more idea of the separation of Bruce Banner and Hulk’s character, Mark Ruffalo said, “Then we start to build the separation between Hulk and Banner . Now the Hulk can be his own character and Banner can now start to be the person that he would be without having to be afraid of being excited all the time. So, we start to know these two characters in a way we didn’t know earlier.”
When asked in the end about how it was working with the Russo brothers, Ruffalo said it was huge and seemed like an epic opera. “It’s crazy, and its huge, and everyone is in it. It’s like this epic opera that expands the time and space with all of the Marvel characters in it. I mean it’s mind boggling. Everyone has their moment to shine. Everyone is still a character. No one feels like they are doing any kind of exposition or having to push the story. It is so well crafted.” Going on to say that they have “smashed the script,” Ruffalo termed the movies as “Russo brothers classic” and added said that the movies are funny, moving , and an epic.
