Mark Ruffalo Teases Appearance Of Ancient One And Hela In ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

Recent comments made by actor Mark Ruffalo suggests that The Ancient One (Played by Tilda Swinton in Doctor strange) and Hela (essayed by Cate Blanchett in Thor 3) may rise from the dead, (supposedly) only to reappear in Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.

During a recent interview with I am Rapaport podcast with Michael Rapaport, Mark Ruffalo was asked which all actors that he had worked with had left a lasting impression on him. The actor first named Joaquin Phoenix. He then mentioned the name of Swinton, followed by Blanchett  Hela in Thor: Ragnarok) adding that he had recently worked with them.

Even though this statement does not indicate that he is talking about having worked with Swinton and Blanchett in Avengers: Infinity War, the possibility cannot be overseen. As far as Blanchett is concerned; it is quite possible that he was referring to having worked with her in Thor: Ragnarok. However, there is no other project with Swinton or Blanchett that he has “just worked with.”

Anything can happen in movies, and especially so in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Swinton’s Ancient One came to being in MCU’s Doctor Strange. She was the Sorcerer Supreme’s mentor and died after being badly injured while in a battle with Kaecilius and his henchmen. So, it will be interesting to see how the Marvel will work this out if she were to return in the Infinity War. It is quite possible for The Ancient One to appear in flashbacks considering that there was a casting call for flashback scenes in Avengers: Infinity War. That would make sense since she is also the primary caretaker of the Time Stone for several years now.

Meanwhile, it is much easier to imagine Hela resurface as it is not very clear what exactly happened to her after Surtur destroyed Asgard in Thor: Ragnarok.

In a recent conversation with CNET, Joe Russo had teased about several unexpected characters in the film.

“There’s going to be a lot of unexpected characters. There are more surprises packed into this film than any of the others. Part of that is character interactions, new interesting characters, characters that have made small appearances that are really getting fleshed out in this film. A lot of people enjoy the experience, so I don’t want to give anything away, but certainly you can expect lots of surprises,” Joe Russo had said.

Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled to release in theaters on May 4, 2018
