Martin Scorsese To Produce The Joker Origin Film For Warner Bros & DC

A new report has revealed that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have green lighted an origin film for The Joker. Furthermore, the movie is in its early stages of development. However, Jared Leto, the actor who played the clown prince of crime in DCEU’s Suicide Squad won’t be reprising the character in this movie.

According to Deadline, The Joker origin film will be helmed by Hangover movie director Todd Phillips. He will also co-write the script along with Scott Silver (known for 8 Mile). Furthermore, Martin Scorsese will be producing the project.

The report has also revealed that the origin film will be the first under a new banner for Warner Bros. Currently, it remains unnamed but the studio plans on expanding its canon of DC characters under the new universe, allowing new actors to play characters with unique storylines.

A new actor, possibly younger will be cast to play as The Joker in the origin film. Phillips and Silver have already begun writing part. However, the project isn’t firm as of yet and it is unknown when the film would be scheduled for release.

Jared Leto is still onboard to play as The Joker for Warner Bros. DCEU. the actor will be reprising the character in the upcoming Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens.

Some details about the project have revealed that the film would be “gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-‘80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie.” Going by that, it looks like the project won’t lean towards the ‘comic book- family friendly’ version.

The news indeed sounds exciting. It is also possible that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment could also have plans to produce R-Rated movies or gritty films similar to 2005’s Constantine starring Keanu Reeves.
