Earlier during SDCC, Warner Bros. announcement on Ezra Miller’s standalone speedster film, Flashpoint suggested that a female version of The Joker could likely exist in the DCEU. Although there has been no buzz about it yet, Karen Gillan’s recent comment could possibly start a whole new conversation about its casting.
Recently, MCU’s Karen Gillan revealed her interest in playing the villainous role. But it looks like the actress wasn’t aware that DCEU would most likely cast the antagonist character in the near future.
A few weeks ago, Gillan was a panel guest at the recent SuperCon held in Florida. During her talk, she took part in a Q&A session where she was asked if she would be interested in playing a character for another fictional cinematic universe.
Surprisingly, according to Comicbook.com, Gillian chose the female version of The Joker. Here’s what the actress had to say.
“Oh, can I say something DC?” Gillan asked. “Okay, I’m going to say something DC, and I’m going to play the Joker. Maybe a female Joker.”
After her startling comment, A fan jumped in to educate the actress that the female Joker does exist in the comics and was portrayed by Martha Wayne in DC’s Flashpoint.
“This is my calling! Somebody make a call for me and let them know I’m available.”
For those unaware, in 2011, DC released a comic book titled Flashpoint written by DC film boss Geoff Johns. the alternate timeline story shows an instance where Bruce Wayne dies in the alley instead of his parents Thomas and Martha Wayne.
The incident leads to Thomas become The Batman in the alternate timeline. However, it also causes repercussions where Martha goes insane after witnessing the death of her son.
While it would be interesting to see Gillan play the role, it’s likely that the actress might not be considered during the casting. Earlier in Batman v Superman, Lauren Cohan was cast to play as Martha Wayne and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Thomas Wayne.
