Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor’s fight was an event that no one was going to miss. The fight that attracted millions of viewers also drew attention from a major Hollywood studio. Marvel Studios that has Thor: Ragnarok lined up to release took this opportunity to tease the fight that will be seen in the movie.
In what was a really clever trick, the studio posted a couple of GIF’s and a small footage of Thor and Hulk fighting so as to connect it with one of the most anticipated fights on TV.
Cinema Blend reported that the studio started tweeting before the actual fight began. They started with sharing a GIF of how Thor and Hulk were to about to fight in the arena, which is situated on the planet Sakaar.
After having posted that, a couple of other GIF’s followed, which ranged from reactions of other Marvel characters in the movie to the duel that will be taking place between the God of Thunder and the raging green monster.
These tweets made it clear that the studio was trying to connect with its fans and give them glimpses of Thor and Hulk’s fight during the on-going Mayweather and McGregor fight.
Marvel is known for adding humor in their movies and so were the GIF’s that they were posting during the match. One of the early GIF’s was of Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie as she prepped herself.
Since the match was about to begin, this GIF was the most suited. Presumably taken from the trailer, it sees the Asgardian warrior sitting in a plane all prepared to attack her opponents. The second GIF was even more interesting.
It had Tom Hiddleston’s Loki as he nervously watched the duel between Thor and Hulk. Going by his expressions, it seems he will be supporting his brother in the movie and would want him to win. Following this, the third GIF focused on Thor, Valkyrie and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner.
This was also taken from the trailer and majorly focused on Ruffalo’s character’s amazement. In the trailer, he is astonished to see Loki tied up and it makes for a funny scene because the last time they met, Ruffalo’s Hulk mercilessly and rather hilariously beat the life out of Loki.
Finally, the last GIF that the studio shared was from the actual fight between the two mighty heroes. It shows Thor avoiding a punch from Hulk and himself landing one on the raging monster. This scene is the most anticipated one in the movie as everyone including fans are anxious to know whether Thor will be able to face Hulk without his Mjolnir or not. All the clips can be found below.
Apart from the GIF’s, the studio had also released additional footage from the movie recently. The footage gave an extended look at how the fight between the heroes will go down. Going by the footage Thor might just be able to survive long enough and remind Hulk that they are not enemies.
Since the film has been described as a buddy cop movie starring Thor and Hulk, fans can be assured that Hulk will sooner or later recognize Thor and go on an adventure with him.
Thor: Ragnarok is Chris Hemsworth’s third solo movie in the MCU. It will see him pitted against Hela who will also destroy his mighty Mjolnir. He will then find himself enslaved on the other side of the universe as he battles to free himself and return to Asgard just in time to save it. The film will release on Nov. 3rd this year.
