Moon Knight Star Ethan Hawke is the talk of the town on social media after an old video of the actor sharing his love for superhero movies as art went viral. Marvel fans are cheering his point of view with more old interview clips of the star praising films as art form surfacing on Twitter. The 51-year-old actor played as the antagonist Arthur Harrow serving the Egyptian god Ammit in Moon Knight Disney Plus series.
Hawke is currently trending on Twitter and for all the right reasons. The actor’s interview for RayworkProductions defending superhero movies has gone viral. “I love superhero movies, I love art-house movies. I don’t think there’s a difference between high art and low art. There are movies that people put their heart into, and there are movies that people try to cash in on. And the ones I like are the ones people put their heart into, and you can feel it in a superhero movie, or you can feel it in an arthouse movie.” And clearly, MCU fans are of the same view as Hawke and are cheering on his opinion. Since I see Ethan Hawke is trending, this is my favorite film of his.
Fun story: his film Snow Falling on Cedars was filmed in my town and he allegedly tried to buy weed off of a friend of mine. pic.twitter.com/C8lprNjk13

That Ethan Hawke clip is exactly why he's the perfect Arthur Harrow.
He's an incredibly well-spoken man.

Ethan Hawke is one of those rare artists who's able to speak profoundly about how art fits into the human experience while sounding like a salt-of-the-earth regular and humble guy and I really love that. https://t.co/Q9WSoU9FFV

Further proof that Ethan Hawke should be the president of Hollywood. To people in the industry this was Music to our ears.
I love that he states that art is art but states he wants more creativity outside of that genre. https://t.co/f4HSqGn7Hp— Matthew Wolfe (@MWolfeLit) May 11, 2022
Ethan Hawke, America's film-studies boyfriend, is right. https://t.co/XLZpmIYmTa

Lately, dissent among cinephiles has to some degree created a rift with one section of movie enthusiasts siding with Marvel/comic book movies while the other side of movieholics are critiquing MCU flicks like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as not an art form – at least in comparison to other non-superhero movies. Recently, star Elizabeth Olsen also hit back at criticisms that called Marvel movies “not real cinema” stating that it diminishes the hard work of crew members like set designers, camera operators etc.
Aside from moviegoers’ critique, Industry veterans like director Ridley Scott and Francis Ford Coppola have in the past dismissed comic book movies as not real cinema. Martin Scorsese even called movies from franchises like Marvel Studios as “theme parks”. But that mindset hasn’t been largely echoed by the rest of Hollywood and many A-listers like Hawke are opening the door for award-worthy performances in comic book films (Case in point, Todd Philips’ Joker). Also, his co-star Oscar Isaac’s protagonist role already has some calling it an Emmy contender.
Hawke has had a phenomenal career in Hollywood and his latest choice of roles has catapulted him as a desirable actor to see on-screen. His recent appearances in Moon Knight and Robert Eggers’ The Northman received applause from critics and fans alike. The star’s next big role will be in Scott Derrickson’s The Black Phone set to arrive on June 24. The horror thriller was recently screened at CinemaCon 2022 in Las Vegas and received high praises for Hawke’s terrifying performance.
