Black Panther: Stan Lee Celebrates Film’s Phenomenal Success On Twitter

Marvel Comics co-creator Stan Lee is going gaga over the phenomenal success of Black Panther. The comic book icon also made his cameo appearance in the latest Marvel Studios movie. Lee appeared in a casino scene where Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa, Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia, and Danai Gurira’s Okoye go undercover.

Lee recently took to Twitter to congratulate Black Panther director RyanCoogler as well as the entire cast and crew for the film’s massive success.

Congratulations @marvelstudios, #RyanCoogler, and the entire cast & crew on the soaring success of Black Panther! What a thrill it is to be able to witness all the records this dynamic, thoughtful movie is smashing,” Stan Lee wrote on Twitter.

Lee is credited with developing the character of Black Panther along with artist Jack Kirby in 1966. Spider-Man, the Hulk, Doctor Strange, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil, and the X-Men are some of the other popular characters created by Lee. He also co-created Thor, Iron Man and Ant-Man with writer Larry Lieber.

Talking about Black Panther, the film has earned more than $241.9m domestically and $427 million worldwide over the four day holiday weekend. It’s the second-biggest four-day total of all time after Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens, and the fifth-biggest opening of all time. The film is on its way to becoming Marvel’s second-most successful movie ever, just behind The Avengers.

The first black superhero film in the MCU has also scored the biggest Monday in history with $40.2 million, besting Force Awakens’ $40.1 million. In fact, Black Panther‘s opening four-day weekend gross is more than Justice League’s entire domestic box office collections over its entire run, which stands at $228.6 million.

Black Panther, which stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o and Angela Bassett in lead roles, is now playing in theaters.
