Marvel’s Prop Master Russell Bobbitt needs no introduction when it comes to his work. Bobbitt has almost 60 film credits to his name including Iron Man trilogy films, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers 4.
He is the one who has created some of the most iconic Marvel props including Thor’s hammer, Captain America’s shield and not to forget the Infinity Gauntlet.
During a recent interview with IMDb, Bobbitt talked about his role as a prop maker. He said that his job is to provide anything that an actor touches in a film be it a pen, a pair of sunglasses or even a lighter. He added that a right prop provides support for a character and the movie.
Bobbitt revealed that when Marvel head Kevin Feige came to him while shooting Thor and asked him to a create a gauntlet for use as a prop in the background of a shot, he had no idea that the same Infinity gauntlet would get a standalone film in future.
“Some props I don’t even know will become really big props,” explained Bobbitt. “I had no idea that one day, the Infinity Gauntlet would have its own movie.”
The prop maker also discussed the toughest prop he’s ever made. He pointed to the one particular cave scene in the first Iron Man where Robert Downey Jr. had to create his first arc reactor.
“The most challenging scene I’ve worked on is the cave scene in Iron Man where Robert Downey Jr. had to create his first arc reactor,” Bobbitt revealed. “And so I taught him how the wiring works and he soldered and we had these extreme close-up shots and it really defined Iron Man at that moment.”
The original Iron Man film has been making news on a several few instances lately. Recently, a new easter egg from Iron Man which has gone unnoticed for years was identified by a fan.
It currently remains unknown if Bobbitt will continue to work in post-Avengers 4 Marvel Cinematic Universe.
