A new report suggests 20th Century Fox has roped in comic writer Brian Michael Bendis to develop a script for an upcoming X-Men 143 movie and Deadpool fame director Tim Miller (Deadpool) to direct the film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bendis and Miller will be working together on the project codenamed 143, which will be set in the X-Men universe. Notably, 143 is the code name allotted to the spinoff project which will focus on the character of Kitty Pryde. Ellen Page portrayed the character of Kitty Pryde in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand and 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. The project’s code name is a reference to Uncanny X-Men No. 143, which was Pryde’s first solo adventure.
American comic book writer, Brian Michael Bendis, is known for creating the iconic Marvel character of Miles Morales in the Ultimate Spider-Man comic books. He also created Jessica Jones, which is now the subject of a Netflix/Marvel series.
He recently made the jump to DC Comics from Marvel Comics, choosing Superman for the perfect start of his career at DC. Notably, this yet-to-be-announced 143 movie will be a return for Bendis to characters in the Marvel X-Men universe.
Talking about Tim Miller, he is currently busy working on the latest installment of the Terminator franchise for Paramount Pictures and Fox, with James Cameron overseeing the project. The upcoming solo movie will mark Miller’s return to the X-Men franchise after Deadpool, which grossed more than $783 million at the box office.
While Miller was initially involved in the pre-production work of Deadpool 2, he left the project abruptly due to some creative differences. He was later replaced by John Wick and Atomic Blonde fame director David Leitch. The Deadpool sequel, which stars Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz, and Morena Baccarin in the lead roles, is all set to hit theatres on May 18, 2018.
