Marvel’s Black Widow Movie Production Reportedly Pushed Back To June

Black Widow solo movie which was expected to start production late-February or by early March has now reportedly been pushed back. The movie which will be Marvel’s first R-rated title is expected to start rolling the cameras this June.

The report comes from Film Magazine Production Weekly’s latest listing which states that principal photography for the Black Widow movie will begin in June in the UK. Filming is expected to wrap sometime in September.

The current update seems realistic as the studio is yet to make any casting announcements as well which did signal that the project is not yet ready to start filming.

Fans have been skeptical and the entire Marvel fandom don’t seem to be on board with this project as many consider it to be too late. But Marvel Studios has managed to get some hopes up since the report which stated that this would be the first R-rated movie in the MCU. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as even Disney CEO Bob Iger addressed Marvel’s future approach with R-rated movies.

“We think there might be an opportunity for a Marvel-R brand for something like Deadpool, as long as we let the audiences know what’s coming, we think we can manage that fine.” (via MCU Cosmic).

Black Widow does not have a release date assigned yet. Currently, Scarlett Johansson is the only actress mentioned in the cast list but more announcements can be expected soon.

Marvel Studios is also yet to release an official plot but Production Weekly provides a plot note which you can read below. It must be noted that this is yet to be confirmed by Marvel or any other news outlet.

“At birth the Black Widow (aka Natasha Romanova) is given to the KGB, which grooms her to become its ultimate operative. When the U.S.S.R. breaks up, the government tries to kill her as the action moves to present-day New York, where she is a freelance operative.”
