Matthew Vaughn is developing Kingsman 3, Kick-ass creator Mark Millar responds to reboot news but fans ask for Third film

Matthew Vaughn has not given up on making the anticipated Kingsman 3 but a Kick Ass 3 project won’t come to fruition anytime soon, at least until the current plans of a reboot are done and dusted. The Argylle director recently touched upon the fate of the two Millerworld-based projects during a panel at New York Comic-Con.

Taren Egerton’s Eggsy will return but the same cannot be said for Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl. The long-delayed threequel based on Mark Millar and Dave Gibbon’s graphic novel is expected to be filming in 2024, based on Vaughn’s comment. Though for Kick-Ass, Vaughn won’t be directing a third film but rather is working on developing a new adaptation without the original characters from the 2010 feature & its sequel.

“Next year we’re rebooting Kick-Ass and we’re making Kingsman 3… Kick-Ass sort of changed people’s perception of what a superhero film is at that time. So we’re doing it again. So it’s none of the characters from the other Kick-Ass. We’d like to bring them back after the reboot, but this reboot is just going off on a tangent that I really can’t talk about. But it’s fun (via: THR).

While the development of Kingsman 3 has been met with praise from fans – followers of Millerworld adaptations hoped to see Kick-Ass 3 greenlit although the co-creator clarified in 2021 there was no threequel in the works.

Mark Miller has responded to the franchise reboot report and has also been at the receiving end of a lot of queries starting with a fresh take of the critically acclaimed franchise. “DMs filled with people asking me about this. Can say nothing until next year!”. However, the comic book writer also included a link to Vaughn’s statement which offers hope for the third installment.

The plan appears to be to revisit the Aaron Taylor Johnson and Chloe Moretz starrer franchise after the reboot. It’s unclear if the reboot could also tie in with the legacy version at a later point.

Vaughn is also rumored to direct The Authority and has shown potential interest in working in James Gunn‘s DCU. It seems like the filmmaker has no plans of moving away from the comic book movie genre anytime soon.
