MCU Boss Kevin Feige Explains Why Captain Marvel Got A 90’s Setting

After learning the fact that Captain Marvel will play a major role in Avengers 4 from Avengers: Infinity War post-credit scene, fans now want to know everything about the Marvel female superhero. They are eagerly waiting for the release of the 1990’s based Captain Marvel film which will reveal Carol Danvers’ journey from being a U.S. Air Force pilot to a superhero.

During a previous interview with The Toronto Sun, when Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was asked the reason why the Carol Danvers’ origin story clock back to the 1990s, he replied that the filmmakers used a 90’s setting for Captain Marvel as they wanted to explore a mostly untapped era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and channel the raw energy of 90’s action classics.

Feige added that the film takes place in a time where Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury had no clues about aliens or super-powered people.

The answer is, you’ll see in the storytelling of the movie,” Feige said. “But it allows us to play in an area that we have never played in before and tapping into a ’90s action genre was fun for us and being able to see an earlier part of the MCU before Nick Fury knew anything about aliens or anything about super-powered people and also tapping into the Kree-Skrull War, which in the comics was a huge part of the comic mythology, seemed like a fun thing to try and a fun way to give Carol Danvers her own standalone origin story.”

Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel is rumored to take on Iron Man’s role in the MCU. So, this means the female superhero will be a very big component of  MCU’s Phase 4 and beyond.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel is now entering the final stages of production. As Marvel Studios has skipped this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, fans will have to wait a little longer to get more scoops about the upcoming film.

Captain Marvel is currently set to debut in theaters on March 8, 2019.
