MCU Boss Kevin Feige Stands By Disney’s Decision To Not Reinstate James Gunn

It’s pretty clear now that Disney and Marvel Studios are not going to rehire James Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Disney fired Gunn last month after some of his controversial tweets on pedophilia and rape resurfaced on social media. The studio took the big decision as it didn’t want to ruin its family-friendly image.

According to Variety, a backlash from fans and support from the film industry and Guardians of the Galaxy franchise cast for Gunn forced Disney to meet the director to discuss his potential reinstatement.

It was rumored that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was the one who pushed for Gunn’s re-hiring. But, the Variety report claims Feige stands by the studio’s decision to not bring back the Guardians director for the third installment. As per the report, Feige was out of town and so he couldn’t make it to the studio chief Alan Horn’s meeting with James Gunn.

While the news finally confirms that Gunn is no longer the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it doesn’t clear out whether or not Gunn’s original script for the film will be used. As per reports, Disney is willing to use Gunn’s script for Guardians 3, which he completed earlier this summer. The studio will likely begin the search for a new director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 once Feige is back in town.

If Gunn’s original script will be used for the film, then it’s likely possible that the film will be able to make its planned early 2019 production start date.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently set to roll out in theaters in 2020. The film will reportedly be set after the event of Avengers: Infinity War.
