MCU fans discuss if Giancarlo Esposito should play Professor X or Doctor Doom & other Marvel roles

Will Giancarlo Esposito be better suited to play Professor X or Doctor Doom? That question continues to loom over Marvel fans’ minds since the Breaking Bad star made an unexpected announcement about his secret meetings with Marvel Studios. Thereafter sparked a massive dissent among fans over which role the four times Emmy nominee actor should play for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With news that Doctor Doom scenes were already filmed in Black Panther 2 with Marvel Studios’ choice of actor for the villain. some fans are convinced it’s Esposito. But clearly, it’s too soon to tell, and knowing Kevin Feige and his team of snipers out to contain leaks, the news is unlikely to break out anytime soon. Though there’s the likelihood it could be part of the studios’ announcements for D23 Expo 2022.

“So, I have not worked for Marvel yet,” The actor said in the now-viral Tik Tok video. “I’ve been in a room with them and talked with them, and to answer your question, I think what they do is on the lines of that mythological journey that Joe Campbell talked about, who happened to be a friend of George Lucas that George Lucas put into his stories. They do the same thing.”

“So, there’s been talk of Magneto, there’s been talk of Dr. Freeze, there has been talk of, who else are they talking about over there? Oh, Doom! And there is Professor X. Pick one? I’m going to go for something that is a little bit different. I’m going to go and put it out in the universe that it is Professor X.”

Some have raised concerns over Esposito possibly being chosen for Doctor Doom. The character’s ethnicity in the comics is Romani so a large part of the fan community hopes for a Marvel lore accurate casting. Speaking of Professor X, the 20th Century Fox’s version of the X-Men leader was played by Patrick Stewart, the actor played a variant of Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Readers can check out reactions below.

From the looks of it, Marvel seems to be taking baby steps in reintroducing the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. While the latter’s feature film is confirmed for Phase 6, there are rumors that a movie titled The Mutants is in the works as well. Nonetheless, Esposito will be an interesting and talented addition to the MCU.
