Thor: Love and Thunder discourse among MCU fans are at an all-time high since Rotten Tomatoes unveiled a fresh yet weak critic score, making Taika Waititi’s sequel to Thor: Ragnarok one of Marvel Studios’ lowest scored flicks like Eternals. While praises are high for Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman) and Gorr (Christian Bale) – discussions regarding if RT rating should impact a film viewing experience has overshadowed the movie even before its worldwide release, leaving movieholics divided.
Since Thor 4’s embargo lift, critics have indicated the fourth installment rides high on comedy but fails to deliver serious stakes for gripping storytelling. However, depending on which critic a cinephile follows – many applauded the fourth installment as the best out of the Thor franchise. Nonetheless, Thor: Love and Thunder’s tomatometer currently stands at 71% with 143 reviews on RT. The average rating has prompted comparisons to past movies that failed to appeal to critics while receiving massive fan support.
How I sleep, knowing a Rotten Tomatoes score has never impacted my desire to see a movie, nor affected my enjoyment of a movie… pic.twitter.com/4YcQ39NLl0

#ThorLoveandThunder currently has a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes.
I’m telling you, if you liked Ragnarok you’ll probably like this one. Taika doubles down on the comedy & action. This film isn’t for everyone. Some people like serious films & this isn’t that. This one is so much fun!

every tweet about rotten tomatoes scores going viral like police didn’t find human remains and evidence of cannibalism in the founder’s LA home that they sold in 2013 😭 https://t.co/WtTALpGsnp

I don't get how people hate Rotten Tomatoes when it's their favorite movie that has a low score but praise it when the score is low for another movie. It's a little bit hypocritical.

Rotten Tomatoes is such a broken website at this point, where a critic from an outlet named something like “Best Movie Newz For Nerdz” writes a 3/5 review of a new comic book movie that reads like “well this movie isn’t very good, but it sure exists” and gets the FRESH icon https://t.co/WbHqDOY3UD

Extremely funny watching fanboys melt down over a few (middling, not even disastrous) Rotten Tomatoes scores and go on about how it’s “cool to hate Marvel now.” Sir I’ve been religiously slandering them for a decade and long before it was ‘cool,’ please don’t erase my efforts

honestly as much as i bring up rotten tomatoes scores they don't really mean anything to me cause eternals is still one of my fav mcu films and that's the lowest rated project so 😭 i'll decide how i feel about thor when i actually watched it

Earlier on, some critics suggested Waititi may have gotten full creative control over Love and Thunder similar to Sam Raimi with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Unfortunately, that hot take is also thrown around as one of the problematic strategies affecting MCU Phase 4. In addition, criticism regarding Thor 4’s rushed CGI is taking the spotlight. In fact, a TV spot of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor wielding Zeus’ (Russell Crowe) thunderbolt sparked much disappointment with many comparing the shot to 2011’s Thor VFX.
The new Baz Luhrmann film ELVIS cost 85 million dollars and looks great, looks like it may have cost double that in fact. This new THOR movie cost 185 million, where did the money go? pic.twitter.com/fAjMyERn7A

i keep seeing discourse on why THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER looks especially terrible, and guess which often misused piece of film technology was used for the first time ever on a marvel movie and led to a lot of wonky backgrounds, flat lighting and iffy CGI https://t.co/SNyNdX93sz pic.twitter.com/865feKo9xc

In the past, several Marvel titles have suffered review bombing like 2019’s Captain Marvel for Brie Larson’s controversial comment and recently with Ms. Marvel, despite the series currently holding a 98% average score. Moon Knight also faced a similar fiasco after mentioning the Armenian Genocide. Though Thor: Love and Thunder’s low RT score does not seem to be a result of such nefarious reasons so far.
Thor: Love and Thunder is available in select locations from July 6 and 7 but lands in the US on July 8.
