Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut with Creed 3 could be a potential blockbuster akin to Ryan Cooglers’ 2015 Creed movie. The ninth installment of the Rocky franchise won’t feature Sylvester Stallone, unlike the 2018’s sequel. Nonetheless, the threequel is already testing splendidly with test audiences and Jonathan Majors’ role as Damian Anderson received praises as well.
Creed 3 may have been delayed to 2023 but MGM-Warner Bros. is testing the waters to get a general reaction on the Rocky spin-off. Fortunately, the movie scored “north of 85” at Wednesday night’s test screening, as reported by ViewerAnon and BSL. Other insiders have also pitched in to say Creed III has a different storyline than the Rocky series and applauded Jordan’s performance as Adonis Creed. In addition, the fight coordination was praised too.

Test screening scores determine how well a movie fares among general moviegoers. The practice of preview screening has made headlines since Batgirl’s cancellation, which was reportedly due to bad test screening score in the 60s. Though preview reactions are largely used for feedback that eventually helps improve a movie with potential reshoots to shape it up for a theatrical experience. Andy Muschietti’s IT movie tested in the same 60s score range.
Creed 3 was caught up in the midst of a controversy brewing between Sly and MGM’s producer after the studio allegedly proceeded with a Drago spin-off without Stallone’s approval or knowledge for that matter. Rumor mill indicated the 76-year-old veteran actor was begged to make a cameo appearance in the upcoming movie and even a slot remains unfilled to shoot his scene if and when Stallone agrees. But so far, there’s no word on his return, especially since Stallone announced his exit after Creed 2.
Majors underwent a drastic body transformation for his role in Creed 3. The star’s physique even drew a priceless reaction from Shang-Chi star Simu Liu that the Avengers may have a stronger villain to deal with. The tweet was in relation to Majors’ character as Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Creed 3 was directed from a script penned by Keenan Coogler with Ryan Coogler outlining the story – also starring Tessa Thompson as Bianca, Tony Bellew as Ricky Conlan, and Phylicia Rashad as Mary Anne, the movie releases on March 3, 2023.
