Michelle Pfeiffer Hints Her Role Is Humorous In ‘Ant-Man & The Wasp’, Details

After a long hiatus, Michelle Pfeiffer is back in Marvel’s Ant-Man & the Wasp, where she plays the role of Janet Van Dyne, the original Wasp. Pfeiffer recently revealed why she had decided to take a break from the screen, and also explained what excited her in her role as the wasp in the new Ant-Man, directed by Peyton Reed.

Amidst the speculation on who would be cast as the original Wasp in the all-new Ant-Man & the Wasp for the past few years, it was announced only earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con that it will be Michelle Pfeiffer who would take on the role of the original wasp. While speaking to Variety, Pfeiffer said that it is the humor that got her interested in the film. “It had this great sense of humor about it and just this unusual tone. This new script has the same thing. It’s nicely written.”

Ant-Man & the Wasp is the first superhero film that Pfeiffer will be doing after “Batman Returns”, and the actress is busy reading the script and working hard in her role. “I just started reading them, and I’m having a really hard time. There’s so much information on a page, and it’s not linear. When I’m skim reading them it’s difficult to know that this part comes after that and who is talking in what bubble,” said Pfeiffer.

The original Ant-Man had the perfect amount of humor that was greatly appreciated by the audience and critics. Even though it did not have the kind of impact that many other bigger films of the MCU franchise had, the first Ant-Man did manage to make $519.3 million at the box office. It’s added success made it easier for Marvel to greenlight a sequel and also involve those characters in the untitled Avengers 4 movie.

In Ant-Man & the Wasp, the audiences will get to see Scott sharing more screen time with Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp. Ever since the mention of the original Wasp in 2015’s Ant-Man, people have been looking forward to seeing the character in the sequel.

The updates and details so far suggest that Pfeiffer will easily fit in the world of Ant-Man & the Wasp. Her character Janet is now lost in the Quantum Realm after she went sub-atomic to disarm a Soviet missile in the 1980s. In the sequel, fans will get to see her exciting return. She will then be reunited with her onscreen daughter, Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lily).

As is common with all Marvels’ films, Ant-Man & the Wasp boasts an exciting line-up of cast members. The film stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne/Wasp, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Michael Peña as Luis, T.I. as Dave, Abby Ryder Fortson as Cassie Lang, Judy Greer as Maggie, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster, Hannah John-Kamen as the Ghost and Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch.

Ant-Man & the Wasp
will hit the theaters on July 6, 2018.
