Mortal Kombat Reboot Producer Provides Clarity To Fans On Project’s Progress

It seems the Mortal Kombat reboot character descriptions that surfaced online earlier this week may not be completely reliable. The casting list, obtained by That Hashtag Show, offered some vital details of the character breakdowns for the movie. It even mentioned Cole Turner as the brand new protagonist for the upcoming film alongside some fan-favorites like Kano, Sonya Blade, Raiden, and more. But, fans got worried when they found both Scorpion and Sub-Zero names missing from the list.

To confirm the casting list’s authenticity, a Twitter user named Mark directly asked Mortal Kombat reboot producer Todd Garner if the news was true. Garner clarified on the matter by saying that nothing is happening with the movie as of right now.

Nothing is happening with the movie at this time, so all news is premature. Sorry!” Garner tweeted.

Mortal Kombat movie reboot writer Greg Russo also came forward to confirm that the film’s alleged cast leak is not the full list of characters. He added that the list is based on an older version of the script.

And… DEEP BREATH, everyone,” Russo tweeted. “1) This is NOT the full list of characters. 2) This is BASED off an older version of the script and lastly 3) 全蠍人 & 絶対零度 Forever 😉.”

It should be noted that neither Garner nor Russo called the report as fake or false. While Garner said that the news is premature, Russo mentioned that it is based on an older script version. So, Scorpion and Sub-Zero’s absence from the casting list cannot be completely ignored. It is even possible that both the characters could either be heavily CGI influenced or will be donning their infamous masks. So, there may not be a need to cast well-trained martial artists for the roles.

Notably, there were also reports of the filmmakers searching for shooting locations in Chicago. The Mortal Kombat reboot movie does not have an official production start date or release date yet.
