MTV Movie & TV Awards 2022 highlights & reaction: Sydney Sweeney accepts for Euphoria, Chris Evans, Vanessa Hudgens & Stranger Things 4 newcomers stun at red carpet & more

Euphoria series catfight scene featuring Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie and Alexa Demie’s Maddy winning the ‘best fight’ category over Spider-Man: No Way Home is one of the biggest surprises of Sunday night’s MTV Movie & TV Awards 2022. But the Marvel threequel flick also won big, taking home the Best Movie award and Tom Holland for best performance. Here’s a highlight (based on fan reactions) of some of the standouts from the noteworthy televised ceremony, including jaw-dropping red carpet appearances from A-listers like Chris Evans to newcomers like Stranger Things 4’s Jamie Campbell Bower.

From recent movies like Scream and The Lost City to TV titles like Squid Game and Loki – MTV Movie & TV Awards 2022 did not disappoint and seeing as the winners were decided by fan votes, cheers and acclaim poured in for this year’s awardees on social media.  While the ceremony was mostly attended by the long list of nominees, some major celebs also made a grand entrance on the red carpet, like Evans who was a stage award presenter. Vanessa Hudgens got a Marilyn Monroe treatment by donning her blue custom Vera Wang dress during posing at the welcome mat. Other notable faces on the red carpet included Stranger Things 4 breakout star Bower, Joseph Quinn and Eduardo Franco.

Coming to the actors who won big at MTV Awards 2022, industry’s veterans, Jennifer Lopez was honored with the special recognition, Generation Award and Jack Black for Comedic Genius Award.

Sweeney’s role in Euphoria was also nominated for Best Performance in a show but Zendaya‘s Rue ended up with the win. The HBO Max series bagged the Best Show award beating Squid Game, Ted Lasso, Loki etc.

Sweeney is next expected to don a suit in Sony’s Madame Web though her involvement remains a mystery. The actor is tight-lipped about addressing anything related to the Marvel project, or her other potential roles like the rumored Madonna biopic.  Though Sweeney wasn’t in on any of the wins, her acceptance speech for the best fight had the internet going ga-ga.

While the ceremony was mostly filled with performances and award announcements, a few trailers from upcoming blockbusters were showcased too, which included a teaser for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. The first minute from Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy season 3 was released as well. Speaking of, the show’s cast members Aidan Gallagher, David Castañeda, and Javon “Wanna” Walton were at the ceremony as well.

Olivia Rodrigo’s first win at MTV Movie & TV Award was one of the most talked-about wins on social media. The singer was awarded for Sour movie, the best music documentary, its currently on Disney Plus.

Marvel also won a lot of heart, particularly for Loki with the series star Sophia Di Martino winning the Breakthrough Performance for playing Sylvie. Tom Hiddleston also got to share one of the awards for ‘Best Team’ with Martino and Owen Wilson. On that note, Scarlett Johansson bagged the Best Hero category and was also nominated for the Best Fight.
