So here’s a highlight of some of the best announcements, trailers, cast Q&As etc.

Wednesday series

A teaser for The Addams family spinoff series from Tim Burton, Wednesday shows first look at Jenna Ortega’s eerie-looking Wednesday Addams and Thing, the creepy disembodied hand. The clip ends with the iconic finger snapping. Ortega just won a MTV Award for Most Frightened Performance for Scream so the actor seems to be bringing her scream queen face for this chilling new adaptation from Burton.

Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities

The horror anthology series from Guillermo Del Toro, Cabinet of Curiosities is unlike any other horror flick, the series tells eight sinister tales told by the directors of Mandy (Panos Cosmatos), The Empty Man (David Prior), Splice (Vincenzo Natali), Babadook (Jennifer Kent), Twilight (Catherine Hardwicke), The Vigil (Keith Thomas) A Girl walks home alone at Night (Ana Lily Amirpour). The trailer also announces new cast members Sofia Boutella, Eric André, Kate Micucci, Ismael Cruz Córdova and Charlyne Yi.

Mike Flanagan’s The Midnight Club

Flanagan’s next series is The Midnight Club based on Christopher Pike’s 1994 novel. The horror show will be a Halloween special arriving on October 7 on Netflix. The Midnight Club features Adia, Iman Benson, Ruth Codd, Igby Rigney, Sauriyan Sapkota, Annarah Cymone, Aya Furukawa, William Chris Sumpter, Matt Biedel, Heather Langenkamp, Samantha Sloyan and Zach Gilford.

The Imperfects series

Netflix is still betting on the superhero genre, though not a conventional “teen gets superpowers and saves the world” but rather an illegal experiment gone wrong on a trio of teens branding them with superpowers though not the friendly kind abilities. The trailer shows Juan Ruiz (Iñaki Godoy) transform into a Werewolf looking beast hungry for blood, Abbi Singh (Rhianna Jagpal) can sweat out poison through skin and breath and Tilda Webber (Morgan Taylor Campbell), the punk band singer can shatter through any mirror with her supersonic voice. The Imperfects cast also includes Italia Ricci, Celina Martin and Kyra Zagorsky. The series does not have a release date yet.

One Piece

Netflix’s ambitious anime-based live-action adaptation, One Piece is in production so it’s only fair the network threw some breadcrumbs for fans. So Iñaki Godoy who plays Luffy, and showrunners Steve Maeda and Matt Owens had a message from South Africa, where the series is currently filming. The reel offers a sneak peek at some of the massive sets and their experience in bringing Eiichiro Oda’s world to life.

like concept arts of Miss Love Duck, The Going Merry, Baratie’s exteriors, dining room and the bar which will be Zoro’s favorite spots. The showrunner also spoke about their current work-in-progress building Arlong’s map room. Netflix also announced the newest cast members.

The Sandman

The Sandman cast and crew had a brief panel discussing bringing Gaiman’s dark fantasy stories alive, in fact, glimpses of the ‘making of’ video revealed set pieces pulled right out of the graphic novel. The Sandman showrunner Allan Heinberg and cast Tom Sturridge, Jenna Coleman, Vivienne Acheampong, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Boyd Holbrook were all present during the discussion teasing what their characters bring to the table. The biggest announcement of the panel was The Sandman release date set for August 5. Additionally, character posters of Dream, Johanna Constantine & more were revealed too.

Mark Hamill is set to voice Merv Pumpkinhead in The Sandman. Gaiman also praised Hamill’s interpretation of Merv saying, His Merv is hilarious. That’s the other thing that needs saying, Merv was always, in the comic, the — on the one hand — a kind of comic relief, but, on the other hand, the voice of sanity, the voice of just going, ‘This is actually kind of nuts.’ He gets to be that person, especially when arguing with Patton Oswalt [who plays Morpheus’ raven Matthew].”

Netflix’s DARK, the creators of the acclaimed series are back with another horror series but perhaps a bit more violent and set in the 19th century, 1899 centers over passengers of a ship journeying to New York with hopes of a new life but their plans are interrupted when they find another ship adrift in the sea. Showrunner Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar spoke briefly on filming the series’ sea sequences with LED panels in a behind-the-scenes promo.

The Umbrella Academy 3
