From showcasing Rebel Moon to announcing Extraction 3, Netflix Tudum 2023 event live from Brazil seems to have been a grand success with over 8.4 million views on Youtube. The exhilarating event revealed an exclusive new look at Netflix originals like One Piece to offering updates on shows that ended with the biggest cliffhangers such as Emily in Paris season 4. Moreover, Netflix also threw the spotlight on other foreign content entries like The Archies movie and Squid Game season 2.

While Netflix’s 2022 online event Geeked Week was filled with exciting reveals – this year’s in-person fan event Tudum has clearly topped fans’ expectations or at least for the folks in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The streaming giant delivered a Comic-Con-Esque event to discuss all things Netflix from sharing glimpses from one of their ambitious and expensive projects, Zack Snyder‘s Rebel Moon to offering updates on their most anticipated line-ups such as Emily in Paris season 4. Here’s a brief highlight of some of the best announcements from Netflix Tudum 2023.

Netflix kicked off their fan event by bringing on Chris Hemsworth to the stage to talk about Extraction 2. Director Sam Hargrave also joined the Thor star and thanked fans for supporting the first film and said, “Tyler Rake is back” to which Hemsworth offered a slight correction to say “back from the dead, resurrected.” Extraction 2 is out on Netflix and currently stands with a fresh score of 75% on RT with an 89% audience score as of this writing.

From Extraction 2 to a threequel in the works

Hargrave also revealed Extraction 2 has a “21-minute oner” – a one-shot long sequence and hyping the nonstop scenes in the sequel. Chris also pitched in to say, “95% of what you see in the film was shot in camera on the day” stressing the use of practical effects instead of VFX. The two wrapped up their presentation with a surprising announcement that “We’re already talking about ‘Extraction 3.’”

Fortunately, Netflix Tudum hosts Chase Stokes, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Maisa kept audiences entertained with their dazzling appearance and charm. Maisa also reminded that 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of Original Programming on Netflix to which Stokes added, “Just in 10 years we got shows like Squid Game” while Ramakrishnan said “Wednesday” and Stranger Things.

The trio then reminded Tudum attendees of all the shows and movies on schedule for the night namely Elite season 7, Cobra Kai, Love is Blind, and Bridgerton. In addition, new line-ups took the podium with their ensemble such as 3 Body Problem, Rebel Moon, One Piece, All The Light We Cannot See but the best announcement of them all appears to be the live conversation with the cast of Avatar: the last Airbender.

Squid Game Season 2

Next on the presentation was none other than Squid Game season 2. A character-centric teaser was shown which showed the cast members choosing between a Red vs. Green button. Season 1’s Gong Yoo is also returning.

The new faces joining the second segment of Squid Game are Kang Ha-Neul, Yim Si-wan, Yang Dong-Geun and Park Sung-Hoon. Season 2 will begin filming later this year.

Emily in Paris Season 4

The Netflix Tudum arena transformed with a pink palette to show a video message from Lily Collins in the persona of Emily. While assuring the cast & crew are prepping for season 4 the actress also did give a quick recap on the cliffhangers like is Alfie still heartbroken, will Mindy and the band go to Eurovision, Will Silvie’s re-kindled love last. But the biggest question of them all is, “Will Emily and Gabrielle finally get together”. Although the titular star could not address those details in her brief message, she did drop a surprising announcement.

“Don’t be surprised to find her on a Roman Holiday”. It seems like the next season could briefly turn into Emily in Italy. However, with Writers’ strike at play – it’s unclear when the show may arrive.

After a brief video clip from Kevin Hart and Gugu Mbatha-Raw talking about their upcoming heist movie, Lift – the Money Heist spin-off series titled Berlin was featured with an official teaser.

The Archies movie

The next anticipated announcement took audiences a trip down the 60s to the Hill station in India with a new trailer for The Archies movie. The cast members Agastya Nanda (Archie Andrews), Kushi Kapoor (Betty Cooper), Vedang Raina (Reggie Mantle), Suhana Khan (Veronica Lodge), Aditi Dot (Ethel Muggs), Yuvraj Menda (Dilton Doiley) appeared on stage for a musical performance.

Sadly, the brief teaser titled ‘Welcome To The World Of Archies’ has been met with backlash in India with many critiquing director Zoya Akhtar‘s extremely anglicized depiction of 1960s India. However, some have also supported the adaptation by stating it portrays the Riverdale world from the perspective of the Anglo-Indian community.

The Witcher Season 3

Just when Tudum attendees had settled down with their cheers – The Witcher season 3 cast was brought onto the stage and was met with the loudest cry. Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, Anya Chalotra and Joey Batey discussed the highlights of filming season 3. Though elephant in the room was also brought up as fans and the rest of the cast bid thanked Cavill for his performance.

It’s still unclear how Henry Cavill’s exit as Geralt of Rivia would be addressed but Liam Hemsworth is on board the role as his replacement. A 2-minute clip from season 3 was released showing Siri is attacked by a fire Mage known as Rience – the character who attempted to kidnap her in season 2. Luckily, Geralt, Yeneffer and their comrades soon jump in to fight off their enemies.

Avatar The Last Airbender

While Netflix did not have a trailer for Avatar The Last Airbender – a brief promo featuring the nature elements Water, Earth, Fire and Air was shown with a logo reveal. The long-awaited big reveal for Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action was addressed at the Global Fan Event with the main cast.

Kiawentiio (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka), Dallas Liu (Zuko) and Gordon Cormier (Aang) were all on the podium offering tidbits of tease with Kiawentiio saying episode 5 is her favorite. Dallas also reminisced over working alongside Paul Sun-Hyung and Daniel Dae Kim, calling the LOST actor “he has the real-life presence of firelord Ozai”. Before walking off the stage, a first look at the actors in their respective roles was showcased such as Kiawentiio using the water bending moment.

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon

For Netflix’s Rebel Moon – Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder and Sofia Boutella appeared at the Tudum event. A behind-the-scenes clip was featured at the Global fan event teasing the world-building in-store offering glimpses of Admiral Noble with Scribes arriving on what appears to be Veldt. The sneak peek also shows shots of Kora with her ragtag recruits such as General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), Nemesis (Bae Doona) and others in a steampunk setting.

The galactic adventure that is Rebel Moon has received nothing but praise on social media, especially from the Snyderverse followers. For Zack Snyder stans, the brief Rebel Moon scene which plays after the behind-the-scenes footage looks like a “Man of Steel Krypton sequence on steroids” as one user going by @KnightFleck put it. A cryptic message from Ed Skrein Admiral Noble popped up on the screen to say, “Loyal representative of the slain king, Belisarius, regent of the Imperium”

One Piece

The final best announcement from Tudum 2023 goes to One Piece which began with a video being shown on the screen of the Thousand Sunny’s pirate ship sailing in the sea. The actors playing the Straw Hat Pirates arrived at the arena namely Inaki Godoy (Luffy), Mackenyu (Roronoa Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami) and Taz Skylar (Sanji).

After a brief discussion with the cast introducing their characters, a first-look trailer was shown for the One Piece series. Readers can check out the live-action teaser below and fans’ reactions to it.
