New Gods Director Ava DuVernay Is Pretty Excited To Direct The DC Superhero Film

Back in March, Warner Bros. and DC roped in A Wrinkle in Time director, Ava DuVernay, to direct the superhero movie New Gods which will be an adaptation of legendary artist Jack Kirby’s The New Gods.

DuVernay recently appeared in the Late Night with Seth Meyers show where she offered some new updates about the upcoming big-budget film.

While in a conversation with Ava DuVernay, when the show host Seth Meyers mentioned that she will be directing a DC superhero film, the filmmaker replied, “Not just a superhero movie. New Gods, Jack Kirby’s New Gods. It is sublime. So good.”

When Meyers said that the New Gods is a superhero world which people don’t know quite well, DuVernay chimed in saying that they will certainly love it once they get to know more about it.

Once they know… it’s one of the most lush… the best one,” A Wrinkle in Time director said.

The two also talked about Queen Sugar, the show that DuVernay created with Oprah based on Natalie Baszile’s books. DuVernay is also well known for her work on the historical drama film Selma which was even nominated for multiple Golden Globes and Academy Awards.

The New Gods also referred to as The Fourth World saga first debuted in 1971. It was Kirby’s first creations for DC after he left Marvel in 1970. The upcoming film will tell the story of a war between twin alien planets, New Genesis and Apokolips. New Genesis is ruled by Highfather, while Apokolips is ruled by the tyrant known as Darkseid. Darkseid’s main goal is to learn the Anti-Life Equation that is a sort of living mathematical formula that will enable him to enslave all the people in the universe.

The good and evil New Gods from the two planets includes an array of popular DC characters, including Metron, Orion, Granny Goodness, Big Barda and Mister Miracle.

Pursue News will bring you more details about New Gods’ release date and casting details as it comes in. So, don’t forget to stay tuned.
