To a lot of horror fans, it seemed like marketing for The Nun movie were non-existent till the start of August. Earlier last week, even James Wan clarified that “Horror marketing has always been about blitzing in the final weeks/days.” And clearly, a new advert part of the film’s promotion has managed to “blitz” fans with its jump scare material.
UPDATE: Youtube has removed the ad stating it violates their shocking content policy
A new advertisement has been going around Youtube (non-skippable), Instagram and Snapchat promoting Warner Bros. upcoming horror flick, The Nun. The advert does its job at scaring the bejesus out of viewers. But not everyone is a fan of jump scares.
The ad begins by displaying a volume sign and it is turned down to the lowest to get viewers off guard. And when least expected, the clip ends with the jump scare. You can check it out below.
Fans on Twitter were made aware of the jump scare ad when a user going by the name ‘Apple’ tweeted out in detail about the ad. The tweet soon went viral with over 66,000+ retweets.
Reactions towards the ad have been mixed. While many find it to be the best strategy, others seem to look at it as a reckless move which could affect people with anxiety. Twitter has erupted with tweets from fans sharing their reaction to the jump scare ad.
More ads are expected as the movie nears its release date. But hopefully, the studio is thinking of a different strategy after the reactions the current jump scare ad received.
Youtube is also yet to respond towards the ad as it potentially violates their advertising policy as pointed out by Polygon. Pursue News has reached out and is yet to receive a response.
The Nun movie is a spin-off from The Conjuring Universe. After a Young Nun kills herself at a cloistered abbey in Romania, the Vatican sends a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows to investigate the death. But they soon realize that not only are their lives at risk but their very souls as they face the demonic nun known as Valak.
In case you haven’t watched the new second trailer for The Nun, Readers can watch it below. Directed by Corin Hardy, The Nun will haunt you at your nearest theatres on September 7th.

feeling fortunate that my ass is in india for the next 11 days bc we don't get the nun trailer ads here im so glad also ad blocker is a real one

That was a shitty way for YouTube to promote The Nun movie. Not everyone like jumpscare, not everyone can handle a horror vid, and some people have anxiety. Making a jumpscare ad for The Nun movie to surprise & scare people is unacceptable. Glad someone give a warning here!!!
