New Report Confirms X-Men: Dark Phoenix & New Mutants Are Not Cancelled

Amid rumors of Fox canceling X-Men: Dark Phoenix and New Mutants because of its merger with Disney getting finalized, it’s now confirmed that the two X-Men films are still alive and rocking.

IMAX’s quarterly earnings report has X-Men: Dark Phoenix and New Mutants lined up in the list of movies slated for release in 2019. So, this confirms that Fox is still moving forward with their plans to release the two X-Men films next year.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is listed with a February 14, 2019 release date, while The New Mutants is listed with an August 2, 2019 premiere date. The listing is enough to convince fans that neither film is going anywhere.

Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox is expected to take shape sometime in 2019, so it is expected the whole thing will not affect the release of the two highly anticipated films. However, it will be interesting to find out what the future of X-Men films will be especially after the merger deal is put into place next year.

Talking more about X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the filmmakers are expected to begin re-shoots in Montreal later next month. According to a report coming from Revenge of the Fans, the film sets are being built in Montreal in anticipation of the additional photography which will take place across August and September.

During an earlier interview, actress Sophie Turner, who portrays the central character of Jean Grey, reiterated that she was gearing up to return for reshoots in Canada. However, Turner had no clue about which Dark Phoenix sequences will get reshot.

The Simon Kinberg directed film will adapt the Dark Phoenix Saga comic book storyline. It will also feature James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Michael Fassbender as Magneto,  Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Ship as Storm, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler.
