Warner Bros. and DC Films are likely just a few days away from rolling out the first Shazam! trailer at the San Diego Comic-Con 2018 event. In order to create hype for the film, the makers have released a still new image courtesy Entertainment Weekly that features Zachary Levi’s lighted-up superhero costume.
The picture shows Shazam’s light-up lightning bolt insignia being touched by his amazed best friend Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer). Notably, this is the second official picture from the upcoming film, the first was rolled out last week, which showed Billy aka Shazam in his superhero avatar along with Freddy enjoying a cola drink outside a convenience store.
Some footage from a leaked featurette for Shazam! has also popped up online via Instagram user, fan_dc.marvel. He claims that the behind-the-scenes footage came out of the Odessa International Film Festival. Unfortunately, the video has now been removed.
The movie is all about a teenager boy named Billy Batson (Asher Angel) who is assigned to a new foster home where he befriends Freddy who is a big comic book superfan. Everything was going normal in Billy’s life until one day when he meets a mysterious Wizard (Djimon Hounsou) on a subway ride.
The mysterious wizard, who’s been searching for the right successor to inherit his powers for ages, finally selects the teen as his successor and grants him an assortment of abilities including the power to turn into an adult superhero by just uttering the magical word- Shazam. The film will see the superhero help his friends and fight crime including the mad scientist Dr. Sivana (Mark Strong).
Shazam! also stars Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, Jovan Armand as Pedro Pena, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Marta Milans as Rosa Vazquez and Cooper Andrews as Victor Vazquez. The film is directed by horror maestro David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creations, Lights Out).
Shazam! will debut in theatres on April 5, 2019.
