Young Justice is finally making a return with a third season titled Young Justice: Outsiders set to debut on the DC Universe streaming service early next year. The upcoming season will see the superhero team including Nightwing, Superboy, Aqualad, Tigress, Wonder Girl, Robin (Tim Drake), Blue Beetle, Impulse, Beast Boy, Arsenal, Static and newcomers Metamorpho, Katana, Spoiler, Arrowette and Thirteen come together to bring down a metahuman trafficking ring.
Notably, the Young Justice leader Kaldur’ahm, formerly known as Aqualad, will take on the superhero mantle Aquaman in Young Justice: Outsiders. Entertainment Weekly recently released the first look at Kaldur’ahm as Aquaman. You can check out the picture below.
During an interview with EW, the show’s co-creator and producer Greg Wiesman explained the backstory of Kaldur’ahm’s transition into Aquaman.
“We established back in season 1 that King Orin was training Kaldur to take his place as Aquaman,” Wiesman said. “Aquaman was also King of Atlantis, which to most people would be a full-time job, and yet he also had to be in the Justice League as Aquaman, which was a lot on his plate. His game plan was to train Kaldur’ahm to be the new Aquaman so he could go back to being King of Atlantis, which was plenty.”
Wiesman revealed that in the upcoming season Orin’s training will finally pay off.
“What you’ll see in this season is that after everything that’s happened in season 1 and season 2, and the leadership qualities that Kaldur has shown, Orin looks at Kaldur and says, ‘You’re ready.’ It’s a pretty momentous year for him,’” Wiesman said.
DC Entertainment has released the synopses for the first three episodes. The upcoming episodes will see Dick Grayson and his team fight the Bedlam Syndicate and take down their meta-human trafficking cartel in Markovia.
